“The Sacrifice of Praise”
Hebrews 13:10-16
1. Spiritual sacrifice
* 1 Peter 2:5 “You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (NIV)
* Hebrews 13:15 “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.” (NIV)
2. Active sacrifice
* Hebrews 13:13 “Let us, then, go to him outside the camp”
* Hebrews 13:15 “Sacrifice of praise” = “The fruit of one’s lips”
“fruit” = fruit of a plant, result of a decision or effort, action appearing outwardly
* Hebrews 13:13 “Bearing the disgrace he bore”
“disgrace” = abuse, blame, shame
* Hebrews 13:15 “Through Jesus” = by a “cause directly worked on in order to perform an action”
