Psalm 20 is a congregational prayer for the success of the Messiah - the Davidic/Messianic/Anointed King of Israel! It is interesting to sing such a song today having the advantage of already seeing the fulfillment of this prayer! The congregation of Israel prayed for the success of their king! They saw it’s fulfillment through David’s success and other kings who followed. However, as we will see, the ultimate fulfillment and purpose of Psalm 20 came through Jesus’ victory over death on the third day when he rose from the grave!
In today’s episode we discuss three expressions of worship found in singing for the success of the Messiah: Asking for God’s help in the day of trouble (v1-2), Asking for God’s will to be accomplished (v3-5), and Proclaiming confidence in God’s fulfillment (v6-9).
