On the Minority Money Podcast, we talk a lot about equality and representation and why they’re such an important factor in human empowerment. This week, we’re taking a step back from our regularly scheduled program for a special episode dedicated to celebrating Juneteenth and Father’s Day.
With this being the first federal holiday of Juneteenth, I want to shed more light on the historical context of the day and what it means to many Americans, especially African-Americans such as myself. In addition, I’ll talk about the country’s rising state of interest rates and what those changes mean for you and your finances.

Buying a home is one of the most stressful choices that we can go through. Many of us usually ask if it’s a good or bad time to buy, and these questions can put us off from taking that first step. In addition, Alex shares his personal stories that emphasize why intentionality and the spirit of community can foster growth in our relationships and wealth-building journey.
So make sure to join us as Alex shows us the ins and outs of property ownership and its many benefits beyond just financial wealth!

A lot of people have very heavy emotions around money - from anxiety about their financial state to shame from past mistakes. Many of these emotions stem from a lack of financial education and entry points. But when you’re a minority in the United States and access to this information is held by certain privileged groups it can be difficult to break past these barriers. But if we come together as a community and uplift one another we can shake things up and create a more equitable system AND country!
To kick off our first episode of celebrating Pride Month 2022, I’m happy to be joined by Cally Ingebritson of Chillax Finance. As a financial coach and proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, she is dedicated to helping members from underrepresented backgrounds bring clarity to their financial plans and make decisions that align with their lifestyles and values.
If you’ve been feeling stuck with traditional finance then make sure to join Cally and me as we discuss how you can get started on developing a confident and positive relationship with your finances!

The cannabis industry has been riddled with stigma; both for its place in society, and how black and brown minorities have become the face of it in the war on drugs. While it’s now legal in the state of California, it is still very much federally illegal. Because of this, so many people from the traditional markets that run on cash, are unable to be financed or backed up by banks or are getting taxed incredibly high.
In this episode, I’m joined by Jontae James, an entrepreneur who started young and dove into the venture capital industry after selling his first company in his mid-twenties. Now as the CEO of NatureTrak, Jontae works with cannabis-related businesses and provides them with risk management and compliance solutions for their everyday business.
If you think you’re bad with money, there might be more to it than just bad planning!

There are many iterations of the immigrant story of coming to America with a limited amount of money– or if any at all. Growing up with parents that had to go through this can leave deep impressions on younger generations– where money is scarce and it must be saved. While saving and budgeting is a great way to future-proof, it might not be the best way to make that money work for itself; which is why financial education is so important.
For this episode, I’ve invited over Anjali Jariwala, a career changer that started in tech but quickly grew tired of the 80-hour workweek. After transitioning to financial planning, working up the ranks, then ultimately leaving to start her own firm, Anjali found her passion in helping minorities, immigrants, children of immigrants, and young couples with families trying to build wealth.
If you think you’re bad with money, there might be more to it than just bad planning!

With behavioral finance only formally discovered as early as 50 years ago, there’s been almost a lack of conversation around it. At the end of the day, after people invest, the question that’s asked runs more along the lines of “Is this enough?” and, “Am I going to be okay?”
In this episode, I’m joined by Brian Portnoy, the founder of Shaping Wealth, and the author of books that discuss and talk about behavioral finance. With over 15 years of experience, Brian coined the term funding contentment as a way to really hook people into understanding the relevance of how our earning abilities affect both our happiness and our peace of mind.
Jump in on our conversation as Brian shares with us how we can underwrite a life that is meaningful to us!
