“For me, living is Christ and dying is gain.” Paul says this because Christ was absolutely and irrevocably first in his life. There was no doubt where he stood. He stood with Jesus. His priority was Jesus. Paul shows us that we can live passionately for Jesus.

Paul is in prison and the believers at Philippi are concerned for his welfare and that the cause of Christ would be hindered. Paul did not see the situation as they did. And perhaps we can learn a lesson from Paul’s view of the greater purpose he found in the midst of his difficulty.
