  • The Lord of Kings and the Sea
In the middle of the night, the disciples were in the middle of the Sea of Galilee, fighting against a severe headwind. Jesus came to them, walking on the water. Mark uses the language of theophany. When Jesus calls out to His terrified disciples with the words 'I am,' He is not simply identifying Himself as their Rabbi. He is declaring His divine name, the very name God revealed to Moses at the burning bush. The sea itself becomes a stage for this revelation, since scripture consistently identifies the stilling of chaotic waters as something only God can do. Jesus exercises sovereign dominion over both the chaos of nature and the powers of earthly rulers. The disciples' failure to grasp the significance of this moment is connected to their earlier failure to understand the miracle of the loaves. Both events are revelations of Christ's divine identity. We may take comfort in the fact that the Lord who sees his people in their distress has overcome the world and will never forsake his own.

  • Are the Gifts of Healings and Miracles for Today?
Are the miraculous gifts of healing and miracles still active in the church today? How can Christians distinguish genuine works of God from the claims of modern faith healers? In this sermon from 1 Corinthians 12:9–10, 28–30, Pastor Robb Brunansky examines the biblical evidence for miraculous healings and spiritual gifts by exploring the ministry of Jesus Christ, the works of the apostles in Acts, and the teaching of the New Testament letters. Through a careful study of Scripture, Pastor Robb identifies six defining characteristics of biblical miracles and healings: they were immediate, occurred both publicly and privately, involved individuals and groups, fulfilled Scripture, were unique in their power, and were certain in their results. This message challenges contemporary claims of miraculous healing, explains the unique role of signs and wonders in authenticating Jesus Christ and His apostles, and demonstrates why the miraculous gifts served a particular purpose in the establishment of the early church. Ultimately, the greatest miracle is not physical healing but the forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. The miracles of Scripture point us to the Savior who alone has the authority to forgive sins and reconcile sinners to God.

  • A Greater Lesson Than Walking on Water
This sermon explores the narrative of Jesus walking on water and Peter's attempt to follow, emphasizing that the central purpose of the event is not merely the miracle itself but the revelation of Jesus' identity as the Son of God. The speaker highlights how the disciples' fear during the storm contrasts with Jesus' authority and comfort, illustrating that crises often test faith rather than result from disobedience. Peter's experience serves as a model for believers who may feel overwhelmed by life's circumstances, showing that looking away from Jesus leads to sinking, while crying out for help results in immediate rescue. The passage concludes with the disciples' worship, which the speaker identifies as the true climax, affirming that Jesus is worthy of adoration regardless of one's current situation. The message calls the audience to trust in Jesus' sovereignty and to prioritize their relationship with Him above all else, recognizing that their hope rests in His power to sustain and save them. Outline: 1) Our Circumstances Can Create a Crisis 2) Our Circumstances Can Bring a Command 3) Our Circumstances Can Lead to a Confession

  • The Bread of Life
This sermon explores the significance of Jesus declaring Himself the bread of life within the context of the Passover and the miracle of the loaves. It distinguishes between merely admiring the provision of God and actively appropriating it, using the analogy of a farmer who fails to harvest a field. The message emphasizes that Christ is the necessary, sufficient, and often despised source of spiritual life, contrasting the temporary satisfaction of worldly pleasures with the enduring fulfillment found in Him. Listeners are urged to focus on the Giver rather than the gifts, trust in Christ's work rather than their own, and take hold of Him by faith to receive everlasting life.
