Oobleck is a non-Newtonian fluid made from cornstarch and water, named after Dr. Seuss's book, "Bartholomew and the Oobleck." In the book, oobleck falls from the sky and causes all sorts of trouble for Bartholomew.

A non-Newtonian fluid is a liquid that behaves like a solid when it is subjected to a force and like a liquid when it is not. This can be confusing for kids, so let's think about this example;

If you pour oobleck into a container and then quickly push your hand down into it, the oobleck will resist your hand and behave like a solid. However, if you slowly insert your hand into the oobleck, it will behave like a liquid and flow around your hand.

So, oobleck is both a solid and a liquid, depending on how you interact with it. Isn't that cool? We will show you how to make oobleck, and we will also discuss some of the science behind it. Let's get started!
