Brian Bitner of the Lessons from the Screenplay team returns to Missing Frames to introduce Shawn to Hal Ashby's comedy classic Being There. Shawn has never seen a Hal Ashby movie before and knows next to nothing about the film (other than it being the inspiration for Wilco's second album's title). Will it live up to its heralded status or will its unconventional plot and structure throw Shawn for a loop?

Back in January, Shawn caught the hilarious bromance deconstruction that is The Climb, directed by Michael Covino and co-written by both Michael and his buddy Kyle Marvin, who also star in the film. While the film was originally scheduled to hit theaters back in March, COVID delayed its release. Now that the film is (FINALLY) seeing a limited theatrical release on November 13, this interview, conducted back in March, can finally see the light of day.

Shawn chats with Michael and Kyle about how they met, pulling off the film's slew of truly incredible 'one-take' sequences and striking the balance between comedy and tragedy.

Happy Halloween, Missing Framers! Actor Will Madden (The Wolf of Snow Hollow, Beast Beast) has never seen Alfred Hitchcock's classic Psycho. He joins Shawn to discuss his reactions to the landmark horror film as well as the brilliance behind Psycho's unconventional plot structure and Hitchcock's unmistakable influence on modern moviemaking.

During the 2019 Atlanta Film Festival, Shawn met the writing/directing husband-wife duo Ruckus and Lane Skye to discuss their incredible film 'Reckoning,' which won the festival award for Best Georgia Film. Now, a year and a half later, the film has finally been released with a fancy new title: 'The Devil to Pay.'

Shawn catches up with Ruckus and Lane for a SPOILER-FILLED follow up conversation discussing their amazing film, some more production stories and the challenges of creating a slow-burn thriller without boring your audience. They also discuss what the prolific pair have been up to as well as their hopes for the future of cinema in the wake of COVID-19.

Jim Cummings' new film The Wolf of Snow Hollow is now available on VOD platforms and in a limited theatrical release. Shawn had the chance to sit down with the film's producers Matt Miller, Natalie Metzger and Benjamin Wiessner. They discuss Jim's unique vision, working with the legendary Robert Forster in his last feature film role and the experience of working with a larger studio like Orion.

The 2020 Atlanta Film Festival comes to a close! Kale Smith, The Youth Critic, joins Shawn to discuss the pros and cons of the experience and how impressed they were with the Atlanta Film Society team's ability to pull off a festival in the time of COVID-19. They also review a few of the feature films they saw.

Shawn's favorite film from the 2019 Atlanta Film Festival was Ruckus and Lane Skye's excellent thriller The Devil to Pay starring Danielle Deadwyler. (The film will be playing at drive-in theaters starting October 2nd, and will be available on VOD starting October 6th). Danielle's performance was phenomenal, but Shawn wouldn't get the chance to tell her until one whole year later - as in RIGHT NOW.

In this Between Takes episode, Danielle joins Shawn to discuss her career (which includes amazing performances in Watchmen and the upcoming Station Eleven series) and her experimental short film CHOR(E)S, which premiered at the 2020 Atlanta Film Festival. They chat about Danielle's love of Jodorowsky and how this film is a deeply personal expression of the Black woman and the role of the Black mother in particular.

Some of the best films at the 2020 Atlanta Film Festival were short films, and one of Shawn's absolute favorites was 'Coffee Shop Names,' written and directed by Deepak Sethi. Shawn had the chance to chat with Deepak about his hilarious short, the challenges of taking on his first directing gig and his future project plans.
