On June 9, 1995, six-year-old Morgan Chauntel Nick disappeared during a Little League baseball game at the Wofford ballfield in Alma, Arkansas. Morgan had been playing near the parking area with other children as the game ended. The other children returned to their families. Morgan did not. Her shoes were found near her mother’s vehicle, but no confirmed witness has publicly described seeing exactly how Morgan left the ballpark. The investigation quickly focused on reports of an unidentified man and a red pickup truck with a white camper shell near the field. Two months later, Billy Jack Lincks was arrested after an eleven-year-old girl in nearby Van Buren reported that a man in a red pickup tried to lure her into his vehicle. Lincks was convicted in that unrelated case and died in prison in 2000. Decades later, investigators located and examined Lincks’ former red Chevrolet Scottsdale pickup. Fibers were reported to be microscopically consistent with the kind of Girl Scout shirt Morgan wore. In 2024, advanced DNA testing on a hair recovered from the truck linked it to Morgan’s maternal family. Alma Police said the result strongly indicated Morgan had been inside the vehicle and publicly identified Lincks as the only named suspect. Morgan has never been found, and the case remains active. On March ninth, two thousand, twenty-three-year-old Leah Toby Roberts left Durham, North Carolina, in her white nineteen ninety-three Jeep Cherokee. She left a note suggesting she expected to return, brought her cat Bea, and drove west without giving family or friends a complete itinerary. Receipts and records placed Leah in Brooks, Oregon, shortly after midnight on March thirteenth, and in Bellingham, Washington, later that day. After reported contact at a Bellingham restaurant, the confirmed trail stopped. On March eighteenth, her Jeep was found down a steep wooded embankment off Canyon Creek Road in Whatcom County. Leah was gone. So was Bea. In or around the wreck were Leah’s identification, passport, checkbook, guitar, clothing, cat supplies, cash, and jewelry. Her mother’s engagement ring was reportedly recovered inside the Jeep, possibly beneath a floor mat or in another concealed area. Searches found no confirmed trace of Leah. Later vehicle review raised the possibility that the Jeep had been mechanically altered and that the crash may have been staged. A fingerprint under the hood and male DNA reportedly obtained from an item associated with Leah have not publicly solved the case. Leah remains missing, and the central mystery is whether the Jeep marks an accident, a staged scene, a voluntary disappearance, or an encounter with someone still unidentified.
