JOY. Someone once said that joy is "the serious business of heaven." That makes sense in light of the fact that nothing can ultimately satisfy us this side of eternity. Perhaps we have been created for infinite joy and yet continually fall short because of our short-sighted desires and limited understanding of where joy is to be found. What if we've been designed to discover all joy in and through God? What if all of creation has been established as a sign post pointing to something/Someone beyond creation? Could all of our longings and experiences be used by God to ground us in a joy that never disappoints? How can we be joy-filled in our day-to-day living?

LOVE. Certainly, a word/concept that has a gazillion definitions. Turn on any song or read any novel and you get the picture. Yet, it's our self-understanding and self-focused pursuit of love that leads to disharmony, dissatisfaction, and disappointment. Our experiences only lead to a deeper hunger and longing for something better. Love was never meant to be relativized. What if there's only one way to truly understand LOVE? What if we were never meant to define love ourselves but it's already been defined for us by God? How do we move from places of slippery sentimentality to experiences of deep satisfaction? PLANTED. Every person is a living, breathing work of the Creator. Every person is designed to walk with God, enjoy Him, and ultimately bring forth "fruit" that reflects that relationship with God and helps others flourish in community. EVIL. On this day, we reflect on a great act of evil perpetuated on American soil, against Americans. We take time to remember those who lost their lives and mourn with those who lost loved ones in this tragedy. How often have we asked, "When will the battle against evil end?" Amazingly, God has tackled this problem of evil and dealt with it head-on. God does provide a solution to evil and even provides healing to those hurt by it. What has God done to deal with evil? What is the essence of good versus evil? Why does God allow evil to take place? What remedy is there for the evil in our lives and in the world? Join us as we discuss this topic tomorrow as we look at Luke 23:44-56.

CALVARY. Familiar to many, deeply felt by few. It is a place of love. A location of forgiveness. A hill of hope. It's where God turns horror into healing. It is here God takes tragedy and reveals unstoppable triumph. Have you ever spent much time on the road to Calvary? Have you ever meditated on the final steps of Jesus? Have you ever stopped to consider the men and women at that location and what they experienced there? INNOCENT. Something we deeply do not feel in our souls. Our consciences speak to us something almost inescapably damning. We try to deny it, deflect it, or destroy it but our attempts are unsuccessful. Our guilt is burdensome and imprisoning. But it doesn't have to be. There is freedom and liberation for those who come to God. There is One, the Innocent One, who graciously becomes a substitute for the Guilty. In what ways do we ignore truth set before us? Why do refuse to accept spiritual freedom when offered to us? What does God do to lift the burden of guilt from our hearts? How is freedom experienced in God? We'll discuss this transformative theme as we look at Luke 22:63-23:25

TRAINWRECK. It's how many people think about their lives or this world. It's easy to draw that conclusion when it seems like everything is feeling apart within us and/or around us. We wonder if GOD even exists and, if so, what is HE doing. How does failure and disaster factor into our human experiences? Where is God when things to be unraveling? What greater purpose does God have in the seemingly destructive experiences in our lives? How does God salvage the "trainwrecks" of our lives? How do we discover MEANING and HOPE in the midst of these difficulties? We will discuss this as we look at Luke 22:39-62.

EATING. One of my many talents Deeper yet, food and our meals can have a deeply spiritual element to them. Jesus loved to gather with people, eat, and have amazing connections. The most famous meal in all of human history is The Last Supper. What we fail to realize is that The Last Supper contains all the truths we need for life and living. What do we tend to miss about this meal? What can this famous scene teach us? What does it mean for any of us to be seated at the Lord's Table? What about this supper can impact our lives on a daily basis? Join us tomorrow as we dig deeper into this event as we look at Luke 22:7-23.
