Do you see following Jesus as a great adventure? I don’t know that everyone thinks about following God as an adventure. I think a lot of people, if we’re honest, think of it as an obligation.

Just because your experience is still in process doesn’t mean that you have to wait to start celebrating. God's promises are certain, so let's start the celebration!

What if heaviness in dark times, and seeming silence from God, is the precise way we can see the reality of Christmas? Jesus stepped into the darkness after 400 years of silence from God; how did believers keep their faith over all that time? When life feels most dark, the promises of God are the promises that we can cling to to carry us out of our hardest seasons and bring us into His light.

As we approach the Christmas season, we need to remember that our expectations frame our experience. Those expectations are driven by the heart, and they are powerful. Unmet expectations can cause bitterness, doubt and a misplacement of trust. Times like this are a perfect time to reflect on what Jesus has done previously so that we can reorient on where our focus should be and where our hopes can be for the future.

The time period between the Old Testament and the New was called the "silent years" because the Jewish people were waiting to hear from God. Then we see in Isaiah when Jesus speaks to the people that JESUS is the end of silence and because of his coming, the celebrating can begin. Jesus is God with us. It is easy to assume that when God appears silent, he is inactive, but really, God may be preparing more than you could ever imagine.
