There is something to be said about being “All In” for someone or something! When Jesus was looking for followers, He was looking for those who did not have it all together or the perfect life but for a heart that said, “Jesus, I’m with you!” Without a doubt, Jesus is looking for those who are “All In” with Him!

Christmas has come and gone. Now what? In Matthew’s gospel, the account of Jesus’ birth is followed by the account of the wise men who traveled a great distance to find Jesus and worship him. The characters in this story are defined by their response to the reality of Christ’s arrival. The wise men respond one way, and King Herod responds another. Our everyday decisions reflect how we are responding to Christ’s presence in our lives. Will you respond like wise men? Or will you respond like Herod?

We often have a picture of what life is supposed to be like. The school we attend, who we will marry, what kind of job we will step into, what kind of kids we will have and how we will parent them. Life usually doesn’t turn out the way we think it will. The Christmas story was filled with unmet expectations on the part of Joseph and Mary, but God was wanting them to trust not in their picture but in His plan. And so it is with us – will we have the courage to trust His plan or our picture?

We all face battles. Celebrating life’s victories can be incredibly exciting, but when we have opportunity to celebrate God in His victory for rescuing us – it is much more meaningful. When we fall or think we may fall from faith, God gives us a battle cry for holding the victory.

People are fascinated by what the Bible describes as the ‘last times.’ What will happen? What will it be like? How will people respond? Jude reminds us that it will be a time when scoffers follow their own desires. The results of that mindset are predictably ugly, but Jude also presents the only ultimate antidote to the flaws and failures of the human heart.

There are consequences to rejecting truth. Jude provides several images that describe what happens in the lives of those who break with the truth. And he forces us to ask, “What parts of my life resemble those images?” “Where have I lost hold of truth so that I ended up here?”

If you’ve ever had a rebellious child or been a rebellious child, you know that one of the consequences of rebellion is that it destroys a relationship. God deeply desires a relationship with us, yet we still battle through the temptations of our rebellious sin. 

Although we are not perfect, how do we know if we are living as a true follower of Christ or have become a hypocrite? Although no church is perfect, how do we know when a church is truly serving Jesus or has lost its way?

Just because something sounds good doesn’t make it truth. Society will teach whatever “YOU” want to believe about God can be your truth, and whatever “I” want to believe about God is my truth. So what is truth, and how do we communicate that truth to others with gentleness and respect?
