Life as a Christian begins with a simple, straightforward decision. But it doesn’t stop there. Almost immediately, the decision to accept Jesus blossoms into a life of actively and intentionally following Him. We call this ‘discipleship,’ and it’s an adventure! But what all is entailed in being a disciple? How do we learn how to do it? And how are we supposed to ‘make disciples’ when we’re just learning to be disciples ourselves?

The task can seem so large, and because of that, we may back up from stepping into God’s blessing of reaching one person’s soul. Fact: A life without Jesus is a dead life, but a life with Jesus becomes new life. So, how involved will we be in the mission of God?

Most of us who have put our faith in Christ have had, at one time or another, fears or insecurities about sharing our faith with others. God gave us a command, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teaching them all I have commanded.”  If we look at this command from God’s viewpoint, He loves everyone and sent Jesus to save us all, so it has been said that sharing our faith story is like “one beggar telling another beggar where to get bread.”

Sharing our faith in Christ with someone can be one of the most exciting things about following the Lord. Often, we may not share with someone because we may feel inadequate, believing we have to have all the right answers. God’s word tells us in 1 Corinthians 2:4, “My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power.” God makes the change in someone’s heart; we just have to be available.

Most of us are familiar with the term “nothing good happens after midnight!” In Acts 16, the Apostle Paul and his companion Silas find themselves in a dark cell with no escape, but at midnight, something happened that changed the lives of those around them as they were listening for God’s voice. The ability to hear from God when He speaks builds a depth in our relationship with Him that often cannot be explained. Are we willing to surround ourselves with Him so we can hear His voice?

If you had to describe the Devil’s greatest tool against you, what would that be? Would it be the temptation to sin, the enticement to sin, or a distraction from serving God? 

Each of these are very real, but there is one that can hinder us from hearing from God, and that is “accusation.” He wants to accuse us of our past failures and sins, which can paralyze us from hearing truth from God.

What if God shut up the Heavens and did not speak to us at all? He actually did from the end of the Old Testament to the beginning of the New Testament. People back in the day must have longed to live in our day because we now have the opportunity to hear God’s voice. What would happen if we dedicated ourselves to listening to His small voice?
