On this episode of Mixing Up Midlife, we explore a topic that many people may have experienced but few talk about: the painful experience of being ghosted by a friend. We received an email from a listener who wanted to remain anonymous but asked if we could discuss this topic on the show. As friends who have known each other for 40 years, we understand the ebbs and flows of friendship. Terri shares her own experience with ghosting/loss of a midlife friendship. If you've ever experienced the pain of losing a close friend or being ghosted, this episode is for you. Tune in as we discuss the complex emotions that come with navigating the ups and downs of friendships in midlife.

What does it mean when women over 50 start saying that they feel invisible? Invisible Woman Syndrome is a common experience for many women over the age of 50. This term describes the feeling of being overlooked or disregarded in society, particularly in media and advertising. Celebrities like Paulina Porizkova and Justine Bateman have spoken out about their own experiences with this phenomenon, bringing attention to the issue.
Recently, Melissa and Terri discussed the topic of Invisible Woman Syndrome, prompted by a polarizing video featuring Porizkova and Bateman. While both women expressed frustration with the lack of representation for women their age in mainstream media, Terri struggled to connect with Paulina's specific experiences and as always, Melissa is the voice of reason.
During the conversation, they decided to try an old school experiment: affirmations. They wondered if positive affirmations could change the way they carried themselves and in turn, change the way others viewed them. It's an approach that's worth trying because it focuses on personal growth and fulfillment, rather than external validation, which is probably what Terri was trying to get at all along.

How did a website & logo rebrand for Melissa Maillett Photography turn into a full online color analysis experiment? Melissa talks about her experience with Created Colorful, what she's discovered about herself and how she hopes to use this knowledge to help her rebranding effort and to help her clients feel more confident in their branding photo shoots. Not to be left in the dust, Terri finds a free online quiz, which only leads to more questions about skin-tone and color theory. We talk about the Vanderpump Rules cheating scandal, which had just broken when we recorded and then became national news (?).
