"This is a mix for lifting off, named after the Special Shape Rodeo, a yearly ascension at my hometown's Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Close your eyes: it's the delirious crack of dawn and you're standing in a giant basket attached to a balloon shaped like an elephant or a stagecoach or a pair of kissing bees, slowing starting to float. Each zany dot on the horizon is, like yours, a warm little furnace drifting in the crisp air. I'm far away from home now, and you might be, too, but the desert sky is big enough to meet us where we are."
