For the last time during the regular season, David and Dan recap a Minnesota Twins series, and it's another good one for the Twins, who take two of three from the playoff-contending Texas Rangers at Target Field. David and Dan were conflicted, though, because the result of the series meant the Houston Astros won the AL West and got a spot in the postseason. Dan recalls an episode of the show six years ago to the day; David wonders what jerseys we will see most frequently in five years at Target Field. They marvel at the fact that this was the most victories Derek Shelton has ever managed an MLB team to, and they dare to dream about more victories with this young core next season. Out on the west coast, the Minnesota Twins take two of three from the San Francisco Giants, and David and Dan are excited about what it means for the team's future. David is ready to start calling Walker Jenkins "Captain America." Dan is ready to anoint Taj Bradley as an ace. Both are ever so hopeful that baseball will indeed happen in 2027. With the focus turned toward next year in so many ways, David and Dan were pleased overall with much of what they saw in this Minnesota Twins series split with the (Los Angeles) Angels in Anaheim. David is trying to tamp down his optimism about 2027, given what he has seen from players like Walker Jenkins and Emmanuel Rodriguez. He's not sure, though, how exactly they will end up in the same lineup as Byron Buxton. Dan has questions about the back end of the bullpen after a couple more implosions, though he is confident about the starting rotation. Hoges joins Dan to discuss the Twins' slow burn toward the end of the season, which included a win-one-in-three series against the New York Yankees at Target Field. Hoges sneaks in plenty of pro-Packers jabs, even though the Packers lost to the Vikings last weekend. Dan tries to keep the show focused on the Twins, who played a mostly listless Game 1 and Game 2 before striking back in Game 3 against the evil empire of the East. They consider which players have impressed them most this season while also assessing the work of first-year Twins manager Derek Shelton.  The Minnesota Twins drop 2 of 3 to the Cleveland Guardians at Target Field. The guys are disappointed in the Twins showing, but they couldn't hide their glee at the Vikings victory over the Packers. Dan is wondering if he should be nervous about Joe Ryan's rocky return from injury, but David tries his best to calm his fears. David is wondering if Derek Shelton second guessed his decision to use Gomez in a non-save situation, while Dan wants to know what will this outfield look like next season. Dan and Hoges are hanging onto the smallest bit of hope now after the Twins lost two of three in Detroit to the Tigers. Hoges, filling in for David, still needs to see the Minnesota Twins lose to the Cleveland Guardians to truly let go of any playoff hopes, even though his heart gave up after Game 1 of this series. Dan is already looking toward the offseason, but he's wondering whether Walker Jenkins is going to produce better next year than he has so far. When trying to explain what has gone wrong in August and September, Hoges points to something about every aspect of the team. He's also wondering: What are the Twins doing with Trevor Larnach? It might be the end ... but maybe it's not the end. It's been hard to tell just when, exactly, the Minnesota Twins season is or will be over from a playoff hopes standpoint. Surely, though, losing two out of three to the Chicago White Sox did not help their cause. David and Dan discuss how much hope they should have left and when we should be turning focus to how what remains of this season could affect the 2027 season. David is looking at Ryan Jeffers and sees a lot of senioritis; Dan is asking whether it's time to shut down Byron Buxton and the other veterans. They look around at the scandal at Coors Field and also the scandal in Ann Arbor, and they harbor enough hope on this season to make their picks for the Tigers series. There is less than a month of the regular season remaining and the Minnesota Twins continue to tread water along the edge of the wild card following a series win over the Detroit Tigers. Both David and Dan lament the Game 3 loss and all the chances the Twins had to win it before the Tigers did. David is happy to see Derek Shelton doing everything he can to win games; Dan likes what he sees when Kody Clemens hits a home run. They are perplexed as to how the Twins will explain not calling up Walker Jenkins earlier, and they both are excited about what the future holds for this team as they hope for baseball in 2027. Much to the disappointment of David and Dan, and most certainly the Minnesota Twins as well, the Twins lose two of three in Sacramento to the Athletics, the team with the worst record in the American League. And to make it worse, Byron Buxton has aggravated his hip injury. David analyzes that play and worries that Luke Keaschall may not be up to the task of playing center field. Dan is curious if Derek Shelton has a little Herb Brooks in him, and David delves again into the murky waters of Walker Jenkins' call-up status.
