MNRCHY

"Music has been always my way to escape and explore different cultures, something that we’re all revaluing now that we’re spending time at home. My sincere passion for collecting vinyls brought me to become a DJ. I started playing my decks when I was a teenager, crate digging and researching are now my biggest obsession, this is why I put so much effort in every mix I curate. For this one, I draw a trip through the genres that raised me: Hip Hop, Dancehall, Reggae and R&B. It also summarizes what I bring on dancefloors especially at the parties where I usually play as resident, Aitho Entertainment, where our aim is to influence and inspire people to discover exciting new and old music. I really hope this will take your mind off, we all need some good energy around us"

Driven by his sincere passion for music, especially collecting vinyl, Youth D first approached the decks when he was still a teenager, developing the crate digging and research skills that make every mix special. Going on to become a stand out selector of Hip-hop, Soul, R&B, Reggae, Drum & Bass, and House music, in recent years Dario has emerged as one of East Coast Sicily's premiere DJs playing at One Day Festival and 095-Hotline, and sharing the stage with Jarreau Vandal and Skinny Macho as co-creative director and resident of the cultural platform Aitho Entertainment.

My name is blkmamba from Toronto, Canada. I’m 26 and as my name suggests, I was inspired by the late great Kobe Bean Bryant. Growing up, music and basketball were always prevalent in my home, so when I became more serious about my music about 5 years ago in college, I chose the name blkmamba as an homage to my idol and his mantra, Mamba Mentality. With this mix, I decided to focus on artists hailing from the great city of Toronto and its surrounding areas to show that our culture is vastly diverse and a true melting pot for artistic creativity.

It seems like music and community are the only things we could use to uplift our spirits during these unpredictable times, so I wanted this mix to reflect that and feel like the release we’re all awaiting."

"This mix comprises mostly of artists from within the UK. Thus, most of the genres hover around Drill, Grime and Afro Swing. All of the tracks are original meaning some may or may not contain strong language. I prefer tracks with strong language because to me they seem to contain the full originality and thoughts of the respective artist. I like being unpredictable with tracks thus some tracks people may know, others (most) will be completely new."

"This mix will find most of you in quarantine as is the situation for most of us within Nairobi. I hope I’m able to bring the UK ends to wherever this pandemic has you locked up. Be sure to check out the track list as well as try to keep up mate! Keep safe, nothing but love."

Fresh Josh is a 23 year old undergrad in his last year. He was partly brought up within Manchester, UK thus becoming exposed to the UK rap scene from an early age. Being surrounded by such an environment engraved his love for the then grime scene that was still “underground”. After moving back to Kenya, there was a lapse in terms of keeping track of what was going on in the UK rap scene. This always brought a sort of dissatisfaction with the music he was hearing. Years later, after completing high school he had already started teaching himself how to DJ then suddenly came across CHIP the UK rap artist and he never looked back. Since then it’s been a battle between playing what people want and playing what excites him to the core. But I think we can conclude that the UK music scene will always be his go to genres.

"This mix for MNRCHY is a blend of several styles, in fact the listener can find a mix of edited hip hop tunes, some riddims, lo-fi stuff, some footwork and other musical rarities. The key words of Bmbx selections are research, curiosity and cool sounds. Quality is always the goal.

Enjoy!"

As we reach mix 100, we look back on the beginnings of MNRCHY. What once started as a platform to unite and connect the underground rap, r&b and electronic music scenes of London and Toronto has evolved into a worldwide initiative.

We use this landmark to acknowledge our trials and failures. We have tried and tested out new avenues for MNRCHY to explore, such as articles and live events. Learning lessons and understanding the needs of our community, we have decided to honour our goal of championing underground talent across the world by focusing on mixes and videos. With the aim to expand when the time is right.

With the current situation of coronavirus getting the world shook. We've decided to have our every own Jaymrqz whip up a summer vibe'd dancehall mix to lift spirits.

Enjoy :)

I'm "Ligeiramente Surdo" and I started my career as “O Bairrista” in the jard.pt collective. There is probably no type of music that defines me, but if I had to, I'd call it "mundane" because what defines you as an artist is, undoubtedly, everything that you absorb and extract from the world. What surrounds me it's my biggest inspiration and it shows in my sets. I work with sounds like Dancehall, Hip Hop, Funk, Afro Beat, Baile and so on.... My biggest influences are Sango, Joe Kay, Jarreau Vandal, Jael and Soulection.

“I’m trying to go beyond the surface of hip hop, into its roots in jazz whilst tapping into sounds from the diaspora. Expect the unexpected from my sets and mixes"

From a young age music has been my passion and so 3 years ago I began teaching myself to DJ. I've built up a diverse mix catalogue ranging from hip hop to house and since then I have played sets for BossyLDN and had radio features such as on Foundation FM This year I plan to start doing my own events and I have my own radio show coming out soon.

For this particular mix I've tried to blend the most unexpected beats together to create a boundless yet seamless multi genre vibe. It is heavily inspired by the sounds I have heard living in London and its electric nightlife scene, whilst also drawing from my upbringing where I was surrounded by Jazz, Hip Hop and Bossa Nova to mention a few.
