Mocs on the Mic presented by SmartBank turns its focus to wrestling. Host Chris Goforth and head coach Kyle Ruschell talk about the exciting upcoming wrestling season.

The Mocs open the season with an exciting Blue-Gold match at First Horizon Pavilion on October 22 prior to the football game next door at Finley Stadium.

The Big 10 is heavily loaded throughout the Mocs schedule beginning with Ruschell’s alma mater Wisconsin in the “Battle in River City” in Jacksonville, Fla. Chattanooga will travel to Purdue and Illinois then host powerhouse Iowa at the McKenzie Arena and Indiana in the regular season finale.

The Big 12 makes an appearance in West Virginia coming to Chattanooga just as Southern Conference competition gets rolling.

The Southern Scuffle continues its residency at the Roundhouse and will host many of the top teams in the nation. An exciting tournament that is well received by the teams and fans.

On this episode of Mocs on the Mic presented by SmartBank, host Chris Goforth delves into the fan experience of Mocs sporting events from the point of view of the band, spirit squads and dance teams. He talks with Randall Coleman, Director of Bands, Ashley McKnight with Ladies of Gold and Ashli Adams with Cheer, Scrappy and the Sugar Mocs.

The Marching Mocs have a new look and a larger look this Fall and the sounds will be different as well with a “color” selection of music according to Director of Bands Randall Coleman. The band has grown to well over 100 members and 77 of those are freshman. The pair touch on the Pep Band and upcoming concert opportunities.

Ashley McKnight with the Ladies of Gold looks back to the origins and the previous dance team, “Elite”, that inspired spirit on campus. In 2019, the HBCU-style dance team reformed and branded themselves the “Ladies of Gold”. Ashley’s role is overseeing the team, helping with choreography and ensuring the quality of the entertainment.

The Mocs Spirit Squad encompasses the cheer teams, the mascot as well as the Sugar Mocs. Ashli Adams is beginning her 15th season at Chattanooga. While the teams are separate, they work together to make the UTC gameday experience fun and engaging for the fans. The soccer team reported Monday and is already two weeks away from it’s first competition at UAB on August 18 after a pair of friendlies at MTSU (8/9) and Jacksonville State (8/12). McKinney talks about this year’s opponents as well as what he has coming back to play another season. The season opens at home on Sunday, August 21 against Eastern Kentucky.

First-year Director of Volleyball Julie Torbett discusses the team and the schedule. The squad kicks off the 2022 campaign with an exhibition against Kennesaw State in Maclellan Gym on August 17 at 6 pm. The Mocs open the season on the road in Athens, Ga., in the Classic City Clash.
