SubscribeToday: Don’t forget your self defense as your country and city start opening around you and you are headed out to have fun and get back to life.
This was going to happen sooner or later. We were going to get back to life and back to work. I’m ready… don’t know about you.
Different parts of the country should open at different rates. And just because they open doesn’t mean you have to go. Do your own threat assesment to your individual situation.
This video talks about when you start going back out. Remember all the other self defense thing you did before. There will be a new normal in your town no matter what anyone says on the news. You will adapt and overcome like your ancestors have for thousands of years. It will be okay.
Three things to remember as you head out to embrace what life will look like now:
Be patient with people. We will all adapt to our new normal at different paces. Everyone is a little pissed off right now, going stir crazy at home, or just having a bad year. They may be pissed at the world and situation and not you, but it’s coming out directed at you.
Have a little extra patience as you deal with people, problems, and stores.
Continue to keep your distance. I don’t know if that will help for the virus but it will help for your self defense. Now you have the excuse to ask people to step back out of your personal space. Use this time to set a new normal for your personal distance. You can set it at double arms distance instead of being packed in places.
I know that it’s possible everywhere, but no longer except that people have to be on top of you in stores or in line. We can stay away from each other respectfully.
Keeping this six-foot distance can be your new normal and will make you safer. If someone wants to attack you, they have to violate that space. The bigger that personal bubble you can make around yourself the more time you have to decide if someone is there to hurt you and the more time you have to act before you get hurt.
The last one should go without saying, but I’m going to say it anyways. Have all your self defense tools. Everything you can carry legally plus some first aid supplies. You never know what will happen, when or where. Some of us are no longer in the habit of wearing our gear every day. Don’t forget it. Get used to it again. And take all of it with you.

SubscribeToday: Fake news and how to spot it and what you should do about it.
Five Minute Friday is a quick tip to help you stay safe in today’s modern world.
Watch the Video here
Fake news is everywhere in our life. Everyone is talking about it. But how do we define fake news? Is it only outright lies that are fake news? Or, as the big media outlets seem to be saying, anyone that isn’t them?
Personally, I think the major news outlets are more guilty of Fake News then anyone else.
Here is a small checklist of 4 things that are fake news. If one or more of the following is present, you are probably looking at fake news:
1 – Is the news relevant today? When was the news piece produced and does it still matter today? An article that talks about the world ending next month that was written 2 years ago isn’t relevant anymore and has become fake news.
2 – “Sources Say” Are links provided so you can vet those sources and what the source was saying and talking about? If the source for the news piece is “sources say”, it’s common sense, or (my favorite) high ranking government officials say, it’s fake news. Stop watching it.
3 – Is there relevance and context to what is being said? If there is a single quote from someone and the entire piece is about that quote, without giving context and why it is relevant to the discussion or information at hand, then it is fake news.
4 – Giving numbers and charts without links to where the numbers and charts came from, what could be wrong about those numbers, and how those numbers where obtained, then it is fake news.
Getting the rest of the story seems to be impossible these days. Did that concept die with Paul Harvey years ago?
Why can’t we have reports and news agencies give all this information and context these days with our modern technology? Seems like it would be easy to do if that is what you got paid for.
I see part time bloggers and writers that do this better than most full-time high-paid “journalist” are today.
I think our news has come down to an entertainment source that is just there to get people to watch. And getting people to watch is how they make money. We seem to have lost the morality in reporting so that the news can make more money.

SubscribeToday: I’ve used a daily go bag for years. I have cycled through many different ones. Adding a bag to your everyday carry may give you the versatility you want to carry things you can’t carry on you but would like to have.
I got this question from a listener that manages a hardware store. He has to carry, lift, and move heavy things all day and can’t have people seeing his gun. He doesn’t think there is a high risk of his store being robbed, but is worried when he has to lock up late at night when he closes. He wants to carry first aid gear and a bigger gun then the pocket gun he carries daily for those late night lock ups.
My first thought was a bag. Since I’ve carried the bag everyday for years I have a lot of good suggestions for you if you are thinking of a bag.
I made a go bag part of my EDC by camouflaging it in plain sight. I put all more normal stuff in there too. I carried my lap top, gloves, bottles of water, lunch, and anything else that I would use during work in the bag. This would make it seem like the purpose of the bag was to carry my everyday stuff. When really I had another gun, extra ammo, first aid gear, and survival stuff in the bag.
With a little work and practice you could be the gray man even carrying a go bag with you everywhere.
My only major problem I had was putting too much stuff in the bag and then it became too heavy to actually use. So be careful and select your gear and bag wisely for your situation and this may work well for you too.

OUTLINE:
I’ve Carried Bags everywhere for decades now
I would hide my tactical stuff by putting everyday gear in the bag and getting a bag that didn’t look tactical
I’ve used camera bags, hydration packs, backpacks, and computer bags
You can be a gray man even while carrying a tactical bag
Bags I’ve used and like; 5.11 Tactical, Condor, Blackhawk, Maxpedition, Tactical Tailer, Hazard 4, NcStar. My wish list bag right now is a Vertx Commuter Sling Bag.
Choose the color of your bag with hiding it in mind
Look around and see what everyone else is carrying and try to look like them

Daily Use
Off body is not the best carry, but it is generally better than no carry.

SubscribeTODAY: Use Social Distancing to your advantage for your self defense. You can practice now for later when you need it.
I went to the garden nursery with my wife yesterday to get some food plants to grow. I was impressed that everyone was wearing masks and everyone seemed to be okay with working on social distancing.
They were working on their distancing. They weren’t doing it very well.
I sat there with my mouth shut afraid to have a confrontation with someone because I didn’t want to go sideways on them. I should have said something more then once. My lack of self-leadership kept me from doing so.
I had to take the kid to the bathroom (of course) and waited outside for him. A lady was obviously waiting to use the restroom too and she kept getting closer and closer and I kept moving further and further away.
I left the kid outside so I could go to the bathroom. And when I came out the lady was standing right next to the door and we had to push by her to get down the walkway to get out.
I was pissed but didn’t want to say anything because if she had said anything, I would have gone off on her stupidity and made a grown woman cry. Plus, I didn’t want to be seen as that mean by my kid.
So I let it go and we left.
I miss an opportunity to practice making distance without having to use more then my voice.
Now is the time to practice. If you ask someone to move away, everyone will side with you and you won’t have a problem. In normal times you maybe seen mean, a jerk, or the problem.
Take advantage of this moment in history to learn something and become better at everything.

SubscribeToday: Selective Unmasking is letting one person take their gas mask off in a NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) environment before everyone else takes theirs off.
Even when everything and all the tests say it is safe, we in the Military would still select one person in each unit to take their mask off while the rest of keep our masks on. We would watch that person for a given amount of time (dependent on the environment and the toxin in the air) to see if they showed any signs of exposer.
If we saw signs of exposure in that person, we would have them put the mask back on and treat them. If there were no signs, then we would all unmask.
With governments around the world starting to open restrictions on business and travel we are in this unmasking phase from Covid-19. We don’t really know how bad this virus is or isn’t, but we can’t all stay at home for ever.
Be smart, let other people unmask first. See what happens before you take your mask off. My family and I are going to wait another 2 weeks before we lift our self imposed quarantine guide lines. Will you wait or will you be the one I watch to see if they get sick?

Discussion on Selective Unmasking
What is the true danger of this virus?
If you end up in the hospital:
We don’t have to choose people to selectively unmask, enough people will be stupid enough to do it. Just sit back and watch
It was unsafe last week and now it’s safe this week? Do you really trust what anyone is saying to make that call?
Is going out really worth the risk?
Thank you all that are still working:

SubscribeToday: Are you improving your position despite being behind? It’s easy to get overwhelmed and want to sit down and do nothing. No matter how much you do there is always more. You will never get it done as fast as you want.
Information, even in the information age, is still not in the correct context, doesn’t always apply to you, is unreliable, and is always behind at least a couple hours if not a couple days to a week. I did a post called Behind the Times with the Covid-19 Virus that outlines our current information problems.
Now what can you do about it? Not much. The best thing you can do is move forward. Most of the improvements to my self defense and preparedness should have been done weeks to months, and in one case years ago.
We are all in the defense right now. We are stuck at home. You can’t go out and do much. In the Marine Corps when you can’t move during combat, that means you are in the defense. And in the defense, you set priorities and do work. The work never stops. You are always improving your position.
Even if you do something you should have done a week ago, you still did it. Even if you keep working on little things like that, eventually you will have a great defense. The military has always had an issue with being behind the times. They are always training for the last war and not the upcoming one. But they do pretty good.
The more skills, equipment, and fortifications you build now, the more you will have for the future. They may not be perfect, but they will be there. I read books from the Vietnam war that helped during my time in Iraq.
What you do now matters. And even if you feel behind, it gives you things for the future. Keep working. You can do it.

Do something productive with your time for your sanity. Read a book, learn something new, try something new, or spend extra time with your family. Do something productive for the long term and you will come out of this better. If you don’t, then you will be the same place once we get through this.

John runs a ASP YouTube channel that shows videos of real gun fights caught on camera and then analysis them so you can learn and gain practical experience in case you are ever in a gun fight.
We talk a little about john’s business and how much work he does to find and make his videos, the team he uses, and his workflow.
After that we get into the self defense shooting science and how fast you should think about going in a gun fight. And the speed at which you should be moving and thinking.
We also get a lot into the mindset you need to survive and win a gun fight.
