We open with our usual review of nerd TV & movie consumption by the lads over the last two weeks. There’s movie talk new & old, some chat about the latest TV (like Bosch, Rick and Morty, M.O.D.O.K. and Loki), and some reading recommendations for fans of sci-fi novels and comic books.

Then its onto to the first feature segment in our “Retro Movie Corner” in which we re-visit John Carpenter’s classic dystopian science fiction Escape from New York. How does this popular 80s movie stand up to a MoDXtra re-watch today? Why was hair gel so important to the New York penal colony economy? Are car chandeliers the BEST status symbol? And was 80’s culture too selfish? All this and more in our “Retro Movie Corner” review.

Our second feature segment is all about our Top 100 Movies. What are Chris & Andy’s most favourite films of all time? They’ve each compiled a list and discuss a few highlights explaining why they are on the list. There’s so much content here we’ll be re-visit these lists for sure.

Chris has been without an internet connection for weeks, so we hear about the movies he’s plucked from his extensive DVD collection and TV he’s been watching from normal broadcast television. (I know, right, used a TV guide and everything).

Our main movie re-watch in this episode is Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. It’s a Modern twist on a classic LA Gumshoe detective story. Andy’s never seen it before, have a listen to find out why Chris thinks this is a great movie, and hear Andy’s thoughts from a first watch.

Then its onto a discussion about a random “Top Dad Movies” poster Andy discovered while bargain hunting. What makes a Dad movie? How does one decide what goes on a poster like this? How weird are some of the choices? We chew it over, and Andy goes rogue with an insane suggestion for the next episode.

After getting the run down of the last two weeks from the lads, which including much great viewing new & old, we move onto “Andy’s Retro Movie Corner”. Except – it’s not Andy’s corner this time around, it’s Chris’. We’re re-watching and discussing the Ridley Scott’s biographical crime drama American Gangster, starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. It’s a classic gangster flick, with cool 70s jackets and a bucket load of soul funk swagger. You can probably see why Chris chose it, being a bit of a retro fashion fan. Andy’s never seen it before, will American Gangster get the England seal of approval, or will it be another on the list of movies that the lad’s differ on?

Then we’re talking top TV comedy. The MoD have come to the episode with 5 of their favourite comedy TV shows to form the MoDXtra top ten. Find out where the comedy preferences of the MoDXtra duo align and where they differ, consider what that tells us about teach of their sense of humours, and see if your favourite TV comedies are on the MoDXtra list.

Chris is a massive Quitely fan, but Andy is reading this one for the very first time. Then we’re off to “Andy’s Retro Movie Corner”, in which we take a closer look at the classic 90s Tarantino masterpiece Pulp Fiction. Is it just a fashionable movie dripping with cool, or are there some deeper layers that are saying something?

We're sticking to the themed episode approach in this instalment, which is (loosely - you'll see why) themed around Hollywood Teams. Squads, crews, gangs, units. We start with a small observation about the construction of a small group in TV & Movies by Andy and then have a conversation about it. What are the commons roles within a movie team? How many Team tropes can we think of across movies/TV/comic books? And what popular characters would make up our dream team?

We mention that it's "loosely" themed because there are more than a few patented tangents in this episode. Chris shares some of his thoughts about JJ Abram's "Mystery Box" theory and Andy contemplates how his TV viewing habits have changed in the new world of streaming. Random, meandering, but well worth the listen.
