In this episode, David discovers the motivations and mentors behind innovative burns surgeon and 2005 Australian of the Year, Professor Fiona Wood, FRACS AM.

Professor Wood is co-inventor of the revolutionary ‘Spray-on Skin’ treatment for burns and coordinated the surgical team caring for 28 patients in the aftermath of the 2002 Bali bombings.

Professor Wood shares her insights into the future of treating burns, the personal characteristics of surgeons and her outlook on teamwork in stressful, traumatic environments.

When she was 10 years old, Genevieve Thorpe underwent surgery to correct a minor deformity on her ear.

However, another insecurity arose months after surgery when she discovered excessive scar tissue was forming on her ears, called keloid scarring.

Genevieve talks with Monash Professor Geoffrey Sussman to investigate why many people experience this abnormality, and reflects with her mother and a fellow keloid sufferer on the genetic condition.

Improvisation is at the heart of Melbourne’s freestyle dance community. Most people are not familiar with the world of Waacking and improvisation, but for prominent freestyle dancer, Maggie Zhu, and singer, Isadora Lauritz, improvisation is a way of expressing their creativity together. In this audio documentary, I explore what Waacking is, how Maggie and Isadora's friendship evolved into an improvised collaboration and how Maggie's growth as a person helped improve her dance.
