Imagine discovering, as an adult, that you have an unknown biological father! This week on The Mom Coms Standup and Stories, Holly Rizzuto Palker, Liz Alterman and Stephanie Silberstein welcome mom, comedian, and storyteller Becca Rothman. Her solo show, Gifted, which premiered at Iris Bahr’s Neurotica Festival in New York in 2025 and has since been performed in Alabama, LA, Atlanta, and Chicago. Onstage, Rothman processes this late-in-life discovery and connects the dots, finally uncovering the reason her anxious Jewish mother was overly neurotic about Rothman’s dating-life, marriage, and pregnancy. Rothman also shares her journey moving from Baltimore to Tuscaloosa 26 years ago, building community through weekly Shabbat dinners, and learning local culture through the many uses of the phrase, “Roll Tide.” The self-anointed arbiter of all things Jewish geography and Cory Booker, Rothman also recounts a bomb first standup comedy performance, committing to open mics, and developing memorization and rehearsal systems for a 30-minute show while reflecting on her kids’ mixed embarrassment and pride.
