It’s winter, and work is a drag. How does one cope? By putting off things one knows one should be doing! Marly & AJ have spent the last 45+ years perfecting their procrastination techniques (and a little bit of time working on how to stop procrastinating and get the needful done). What causes it? Does ADHD make it worse? How do we try and mitigate against it? Can AJ & Marly actually manage to talk it through without multiple tangents and somehow managing to talk about melons? No.

Today we’re talking about perfectionism, overwhelm, time blindness, emotional dysregulation, and avoidance… all things that can lead to procrastination. And when you’re neurospicy, all of these struggles can be amplified. We also cover off some techniques for dealing with procrastination and some add-ons that will help if you are a chaos goblin like we are.

Marly & AJ have returned with a new season where they promise they’ll try to stick to the plan! But to explain why they have it so hard staying on topic, this week’s show is about communicating while under the influence of ADHD. In this episode they talk about what it’s like to try to explain yourself with squirrel brain: maybe you talk too fast, or inadvertently interrupt, free associate into the next room, or overthink it and shut down.

Or perhaps you don’t have ADHD yourself, but you’re trying to communicate with someone who does. We have some useful tips and approaches to help with the pitfalls of talking to someone who struggles to focus.

Finally, they come up with some strategies for people with ADHD to help improve their own communication skills.
