  • Fostering Your Relationship with Jesus While Caring for a Newborn

"In my first weeks of motherhood, I was faced with my insufficiency and weakness. The physical exhaustion from delivering a baby, the fog of not sleeping more than two hours at a time, and the weight of caring for a tiny human whose crying sometimes mystified me, forced me to ceaselessly pray for  God’s help. I needed His strength to make it minute-by-lonely night-minute. Tears would trickle down my face as I cried out to the Lord for the night to end and sunrise to come.

When I could peer out the living room window and catch the beginnings of the sunrise, the despair of a  long night would vanish and hope would rise up within my heart. The citrus-colored sunrise would remind me of God’s faithfulness to walk alongside me in the hard moments—and that night would always give way to light."

Listen to the rest of Jenny Marcelene's essay today as she encourages you to foster your relationship with Jesus, even while caring for a newborn.

  • Deliverance | Christmas 2021

"And then, all at once. It is over. The pressure releases and she feels him – Him! – come out. Joseph is sobbing, and she is shaking, and He is here. She shivers and shakes and opens her eyes as her baby is laid on her chest.

    And she is delivered.

He is here. HE is here. God with us. Immanuel. And in Him, in his flailing arms and rooting cries, in Him all of the fullness of the promise of deliverance comes to life. He is the One who will destroy even the memory of war and famine and earthquakes, who will wipe every tear from our eyes. He is the One who will defeat sin and death and establish a peace secure and lasting (Revelation 21:4; Isaiah 9:7; Isaiah 65:17-25). He is the one who will turn our suffering into joy.

    Merry Christmas. We are delivered."

  • Jesus the Nursling | Christmas Eve 2021

“The Creator of all things, the Alpha and Omega, the Eternal One, putting on the garb of infancy to enter the world, just like every other human, is a level of vulnerability that astonishes me. His entrance, unlike what we would expect of a King, is not dramatic, but rather common—“Heaven’s King” is “Infant Jesus” given comfort and life at Mary’s bosom, night after night.”

  • When the Time Came | Christmas 2021

“When I took the time to notice that God saw when the time was right, I saw God’s faithfulness in the entirety of the Old Testament.  The stories, lives, and events wove together.  The miracles, the sin, the struggles, the joy, the silence - every little thing led up to the moment when the time was right.  The time was right because God ordained those things to happen.  None of it was wasted.  I’m going to say that again: None of it was wasted.  It all worked intricately together to bring about a moment when Christ entered our world, forever changing it.  This is what Advent is about.  It is about sitting in the presence of God and being in awe of His timing, not looking in vain for anything but, rather, celebrating Who we are looking for- Jesus, who came directly to us as a baby.”

  • Reorienting our Priorities at Christmas | Christian Christmas 2021

Giving birth to my boys is one of the most intense experiences I’ve had in my life, but Mary’s? ...Mary’s birth changed the world we live in. Jesus gives us new hope and Jesus rewrote the story of humanity. As Christians, we should joyously celebrate that, but modern culture keeps transforming Christmas into a commercial date. There is so much pressure in decorating the house, preparing huge meals, and checking every box on the gift list, that we risk losing sight of the One Person we should be celebrating. And even worse, the stress from it all might even try and steal our time with our Savior.

  • Christian Advent 2021 | Week Three Recap | The Birth of the Savior

Let's discuss the incarnation of Jesus. Our study is called “O Come O Come Emanuel | Marvel at the Magnitude of the incarnation.” I named it as such because I can often find myself not marveling at the incarnation of Jesus. Personally, I find that it is all too easy for the awe- this wonder- to become plain. Also, I've found it easy to simply fall into a lackluster of lukewarm belief in Jesus that can become numb to this awe or wonder that we should rightly have at our Holy God and at His miraculous plan for salvation- Jesus.

  • Longing for Emmanuel | Christian Christmas Series

Momma, it is so tempting to propel ourselves into Christmas cheer, into holiday mode, focusing our efforts on making magical experiences for our children, a chance to weave faith and family into the memories they will carry into this world someday. But, friend, for a few moments in this season, can I encourage you to consider the dark? To consider the “weary world” and not just the “rejoicing”? In many ways, I feel the need for a Merry Christmas more desperately now than ever after a challenging two years. It is very much my predisposition to revel in the light, the festivities, to cherish the gift of the Christ-child’s birth and ignore the nagging sense of desperation that clings to me, simply as a result of living in this world...

Listen to the rest of Adrienne Garrison's essay today as she explains how our longing for Emmanuel can help to reorient us towards His glorious light.
