  • It Got Real: When Motherhood Clashed With Womanhood

In this episode I am very transparent about my journey of managing my depression and anxiety. I share  my experience with having a meltdown in the pharmacy because there was an issue with my insurance covering the cost of my medication. YES! I take medication to help manage my depression and anxiety.  At the same time I was trying to take care of my medication crisis,  my son was running through the aisles, grabbing different items, playing in a chair, just making so much noise. I had a breakdown right at the pharmacy counter!

I share some strategies that I used to cope with my anxiety .  My goal for this episode is to encourage you to give yourself grace when you have difficult moments. Understand that motherhood and womanhood are both difficult jobs because of the pressures that are put on us in both areas. There are going to be moments where the two will clash and it can get messy, but it is important to remind yourself that every minute,  every hour, and every day is another opportunity to get it right.

  • Pushing Through Your Circumstances With Jehna Brown.

In this episode I am joined by Jehna Brown to continue our conversation about redefining circumstances. She shares her story of becoming a teenage parent and being faced with having to quickly find employment, shelter, and build on her support system. Jehna describes a heartbreaking moment where she was unsure of how to move forward because of her situation. Despite what was right in front of her she made the decision to press on and have a vision of what her life could be. She is now a mother of three, managing multiple businesses and  doing motherhood and womanhood like a boss!

     Jehna provides tips on:

    1. Building your support system
    2. Making difficult decisions
    3. Managing a Business
    4. Balancing work and home life

    Guest Bio

On a social media post once, her late Uncle Richard described Jehna Brown as,

“The Undisputed Winner… skating through this life with ease, despite a few falls - and the crisp chill of Winter.”

She often circles back to read those words to hang on to the memory of her uncle, but it also reminds her of how she is a woman of perseverance – always ready to take on any obstacle that comes her way. She strongly believes in the phrase, “No Grit. No Pearl.”

Jehna is a 31-year-old mother of three, born and raised in Rochester, NY where she graduated from high school, birthed her first child, and completed her undergrad studies. In response to the burning desire for a change in scenery and to have access to greater opportunities, she relocated to the South where her mother was living at the time.  Jehna has been a resident of Charlotte, North Carolina working in the field of Healthcare Solutions for over 7 years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from The College at Brockport and a Master of Public Health degree obtained from Capella University.

Her dreams of becoming a public health advisor and working for the Centers for Disease Control as an epidemiologist has shifted and she is now entering the field of entrepreneurship. Last year she launched her virtual assistant business, Clerical Necessities, which provides remote personal assistance for those who may lack the time, knowledge, and/or resources to complete certain tasks on their own. More recently, she has started an Ecommerce business and has been exploring the world of network marketing, real estate, and trading. Outside of working in healthcare and building businesses, some of her hobbies include writing, decorating her home, and studying the Bible. All of this, of course, comes second to her role of “mommy” – which involves grooming and nurturing a twelve-year girl pre-teen and two beautiful little boys ages 1 and 5, whom she loves more than anything. Jehna strives each day to not only teach but show her children that they can achieve anything they put their mind and effort toward.

  • Motherhood is Traumatic

This episode is an introduction to season two and provides a sneak peak into the guests that will join the podcast.

In this episode I share an excerpt from a book titled Parenting for Liberation by Trina Green-Brown. The piece from the story identified motherhood as traumatic. I share my views about this association between trauma and motherhood. I discuss ways to redefine our circumstances in relation to experiences in motherhood.  In this episode I describe what it means to redefine circumstances.  A change in your mindset can result in a drastic change in your life.

I break down the definition of circumstance and apply it to real life situations. I describe the importance of looking past your current circumstances and focus on what can be birthed out of the situation.

In this episode I encourage you to explore the following questions:
    1. How has motherhood conditioned you?
    2. How has motherhood healed you?
    3. What seeds were planted when you stepped into motherhood and what grew from those seeds?

  • Navigating Parenting, Education and Career with LaShara Evans

In this episode, I share a conversation I had with LaShara (Shari) Evans about Career, Parenting and Education.  She shares her career journey, how she is managing her family during this pandemic and her experiences as a School Principal.

Shari tells the story of how her career path was directed by God. When she entered college she had no intention of going into education, and here she is serving as a School Principal. In terms of navigating her career, Shari shared these three points with me:

    1.       Know your worth

    2.       Know your niche

    3.       Ask for feedback

Shari also provided tips and strategies parents can use to help them support their children during this new way of learning, rather hybrid or fully remote. She empowers mothers to:

    1.       Communicate with teachers to let them know their specific needs for their family.

    2.       Know the power of your voice, and demand that you child receives the supports that they need.

    3.       Be open to changing your routine to help your child succeed.

Additionally, Shari shared advice that she would give to mothers to help them grow as women and to show up for their children. She suggested:

    1.       Know your worth as a women in terms of friendships and relationships

    2.       Be patient with yourself, show yourself grace

    3.       Be a model for your children

    4.       “Stop Cussing at your kids” Be mindful of the language you are using with them, words can hurt.

  • Congratulations You're Pregnant

MomMe Timeout’s brand is about Authenticity, Sisterhood and Winning at life. In this episode I exude all three of these. I share my pregnancy story and I am very honest about my experience. I let it all hang out to help you, my sister, learn to embrace your experiences and learn from them. My goal is to see you overcome any negative experiences and win at life. I share three lessons that I learned from my pregnancy story. These three lessons are:

    1.       Make the decision that is best for you, but remember that those impacted by your decision have the right to their feelings. Be willing to understand their thoughts and feelings even if your decision will not change. Do not become angry with them because of their feelings. Anger is a draining emotion and no one wins in the end.

    2.       Allow those who are impacted by your decision to process at their own pace. Do not force them to do things your way. “My way or the highway” mentality can leave everyone hurt in the end.

    3.       If you make a decision that does not work out the way you anticipated, remember that you can make another decision. We all have choices, and making one choice does not mean that it is the end. You have the free will to make changes if you are not comfortable.
