  • The October Surprise Came Early
There was plenty of political news to talk about BEFORE we learned that President Trump and the First Lady tested positive for COVID-19:The week began with a couple of bombshell reports from the New York Times, which obtained 20 years of Trump tax returns.Trump's refusal to follow rules turned the first presidential debate into a "hot mess inside a dumpster fire." And that was BEFORE we learned that it may also have been a super-spreader event. Polling for the election has remained steady while fundraising for Democrats has been robust (over $30 million raised during the debate alone). And that's just the election-related news, all of which is now affected by Trump's positive diagnosis. MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills discuss this and as much as they can fit into one hour in this week's political podcast. Part of the #DemCast family of podcasts.

  • Fight for the Things You Care About
“Fight for the things that you care about. But do it in a way that will lead others to join you," Ruth Bader Ginsburg said - and the next 39 days will be the greatest fight of our lives as President Trump pulls out all the stops to retain power after an election he seems sure to lose bigly. The MOMocrats remember RBG, and talk about the Republicans' shameless determination to replace her before the election (or during the lame duck session). They will also talk about Breonna Taylor and the aftermath of the Kentucky grand jury decision that exonerated the police officers who killed her. And - of course - the latest developments in the most important election of our lives. MOMocrats MOMochat is part of the DemCast family of podcasts.

  • The Worst Year Ever
Smoke from the fires in the West has reached Europe. Another large hurricane has flooded towns in the Gulf. Health officials warn that a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic will be upon us soon, and at least one model predicts a "very deadly December." The economy continues to sputter. And the November 3 election could either be a new beginning for our democracy... or mark its end. And even if our side wins, it may be difficult to wrench the current president out of the White House.MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills talk about the life and death nature of American politics right now in this week's podcast from a progressive point of view. • COVID in America is Like Another 9/11 Every Other Day
As the MOMocrats watched today's solemn comemmorations of the terrible events that occurred 19 years ago, they noted that Donald Trump has caused approximately 66 9/11’s this year, and we lose another 1,000 people every single day. This week, we learned that Trump's mishandling of the virus was not due to a misunderstanding of its lethality: Back in February, he told journalist Bob Woodward that the novel coronavirus was airborne, very easy to contract, and deadlier than the flu. Several weeks later, he confessed to Woodward that he deliberately played down the dangers of the virus because he didn't want to cause "panic." (Since his re-election campaign is ONLY about panicking white folks, one would have to conclude that the thing he doesn't want to panic is the stock market. And Lordy, there are tapes.Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills will talk about this and more on this week's MOMocrats MOMochat, part of the DemCast family of podcasts.

  • It's Labor Day. Will We See Another Spike?
The MOMocrats can't believe summer is over and we STILL need to stay socially distant. Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills talk about the Biden campaign's strong offense this week, much ado about a visit to a hair salon... and the bombshell report that Donald Trump thinks our fallen soldiers are "losers."MOMocrats MOMochat is part of the DemCast family of podcasts.

  • 67 Days to Go
The Republicans had their turn to put on a convention this week... and it wasn't good.MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills talk about how Donald Trump's plans for a grand coronation got repeatedly botched by the coronavirus, violations of the Hatch Act...and the backdrop of Jacob Blake's shooting and the violence in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Also: Kamala Harris comes out swinging as the Biden campaign gears up for battle.Early voting in some states begins in a little over three weeks.MOMocrats MOMochat is part of the DemCast family of podcasts.

  • Conventional Wisdom: Recapping the DNC
The leadership of the Democratic National Committee took the COVID-19 pandemic seriously and made the decision months ago to forego the traditional mass gathering which was to take place in Milwaukee this year. Pundits feared that the proceedings would end up with all the charm of one massive Zoom teleconference. The pundits were charmingly proven wrong. The convention planning team - led by veteran Democratic strategist Stephanie Cutter and Emmy-award winning TV producer Ricky Kirshner (who has been on board since 1992), this year's DNC was a crisp, fast-moving television event... and might we add: entertaining."It was GOOD television," says MOMocrat Donna Schwartz Mills, who joins her colleagues Karoli and Aliza Worthington of CrooksandLiars.com to assess the convention, the introduction to the country of the Biden-Harris ticket... and speculate about the Republicans' turn next week.MOMocrats MOMochat is part of the DemCast family of podcasts.

  • Yo, Semite! We're Going to Thighland
As Donald Trump bumbles through talking points during his daily press briefings and continues to believe the coronavirus will "just go away" - he tries to make the case that JOE BIDEN is too mentally diminished to be president. You can almost hear MOMocrats Aliza Worthington and Donna Schwartz Mills roll their eyes as they run through this week's political news from a progressive point of view. The election is less than 90 days away, and mailed ballots will start going out in a matter of weeks. Polling lo oks good for the Democrats, but after 2016, no one is putting stock in polls - especially when the Republicans seem determined to STEAL the election (again). We can't let that happen. The next administration is going to have its work cut out for it, as experts warn that COVID-19 restrictions will be with us for years to come - even if we get an effective vaccine.MOMocrats MOMochat is part of the DemCast family of podcasts.

  • Republicans in Disarray
The emergency provisions of the CARES Act - giving Americans an extra unemployment benefit $600 per week and a moratorium on evictions - expire next week. The Democrats in the House have passed the HEROES Act back in May, providing six more months of COVID-19 unemployment, housing and food assistance, debt relief, student loan forgiveness, hazard pay, and nearly $1 trillion in aid for state and local governments. This legislation remains with the pile of House bills gathering dust on Mitch "The Grim Reaper" McConnell's desk. The GOP has been in negotiations among themselves to come up with a Senate bill that would provide less generous benefits to the American people who are still suffering from the raging pandemic - but they cannot come to consensus (and they have yet to talk to Democratic Senators they need to pass the 60-vote threshhold). Time is of the essence: they are due for yet another five-week recess on July 31. And this week, unemployment claims surged again, as many parts of the country are on the brink of a second closing due to the pandemic.MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills discuss this and the crazy quilt of this week's other developments in the weekly podcast from a progressive point of view - part of the DemCast family of podcasts.

  • Back to School
There is one issue on which the MOMocrats agree with Donald Trump: We would ALL like to see our kids go back to school, where they can learn their lessons in a classroom with trained, professional teachers and enjoy socializing with their friends. But as long as the pandemic surges unchecked - and the government withholds funding that will allow schools to open safely - a majority of parents and teachers alike want everyone to continue to STAY HOME. No amount of presidential bullying can change the trajectory of a virus that does not respect political stance or borders. Not to mention the fact that we still do not understand the long term effects of COVID infection, even after someone has seemingly recovered.MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills talk about this and the other political stories of the week.
