This week on NEWS.MC TV: Monaco's leadership on climate, diplomacy, and innovation takes centre stage.
Monaco’s commitment to a more sustainable future was in the spotlight as the Green Shift Festival returned for its third edition on June 5. Launched by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the event celebrated creativity as a catalyst for ecological transition, bringing together thinkers, artists and activists to explore how culture can power climate action.
The Principality also showcased its growing impact on the international stage with the release of Monaco’s Department of International Cooperation’s 2022–2024 strategic report on June 6. The report revealed that Monaco’s aid initiatives directly reached 3.5 million people worldwide, underlining its strong commitment to global solidarity and sustainable development.
Innovation took to the seas on June 6 with the official launch of the Malizia Explorer, a state-of-the-art climate research sailboat. Designed to monitor the effects of climate change on the oceans, the Malizia Explorer is a joint initiative supported by the Prince Albert II Foundation and Team Malizia. It will play a critical role in advancing marine science and awareness across the globe.
In a historic moment for diplomatic relations, President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron paid a landmark state visit to Monaco on June 7 and 8 — the first by a French President in over 40 years. The visit was marked by official ceremonies, cultural exchanges, and high-level discussions that reaffirmed the enduring Franco-Monegasque alliance.
This strengthened relationship was further cemented by the signing of a new amendment to the 1963 customs agreement between France and Monaco, modernising their cooperation to better reflect current economic and regulatory frameworks.
Monaco also took centre stage in global marine governance as it hosted the Blue Economy and Finance Forum on June 7 and 8 at the Grimaldi Forum. The event served as a curtain-raiser to the United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, offering a platform for financial and political leaders to discuss how to fund a sustainable ocean economy.
Meanwhile in Nice, world leaders convened for the third United Nations Ocean Conference, where H.S.H. Prince Albert II joined heads of state in urging immediate action to save the oceans. Among the milestones announced was the implementation of the long-awaited UN High Seas Treaty.
Back home in the arena, Monaco’s Roca Team delivered a show-stopping finish to their playoff series against Asvel, coming back from 15 points down in the fourth quarter to win 91–86. Scoring the final 20 points unanswered, the team sealed the series 3–1 and advanced to the Betclic Elite final where they’ll face off against Paris.
This week’s exclusive interview features Laurent Anselmi, President of the Monaco Academy of the Sea (A2M). He joins us to discuss Monaco’s strategic role in ocean diplomacy, the evolution of the Blue Economy, and how education and leadership are shaping the next generation of ocean advocates.

This week, NEWS.MC TV brings you the latest updates from Monaco, starting with a royal appearance on the silver screen. On May 27, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II attended a special screening of Blow-Up at the Théâtre des Variétés. The event, hosted by the Audiovisual Institute of Monaco as part of its “Toulard du cinéma” programme, paid tribute to classic cinema and drew a crowd of film enthusiasts.
The culinary world lit up on May 28 and 29 as world-renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa returned to the Principality for two exclusive evenings at Nobu Fairmont Monte-Carlo. Guests were treated to a rare, immersive dining experience, as the master chef himself curated an unforgettable menu blending Japanese precision with Peruvian flair.
In sporting triumph, Monaco smashed records at the 2025 Games of the Small States of Europe in Andorra, concluding their campaign on May 31 with a record-breaking haul of 44 medals — eclipsing their previous best of 33 from Malta in 2023. It was a proud moment for the Principality’s athletes on the European stage.
Across the border, France is taking a page out of Monaco’s book with sweeping new anti-smoking measures. From July 1, 2025, smoking will be banned in outdoor spaces frequented by children — including beaches, parks, school entrances, bus stops, and stadiums — following Monaco’s pioneering lead in public health policy.
On the global stage, Monaco reaffirmed its commitment to human rights this week, marking 30 years since ratifying the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. The Principality remains a strong voice in the international fight against racism and discrimination.
At home, Monaco’s government is preparing for a new chapter. His Serene Highness Prince Albert II has appointed Philippe Mettoux as Monaco’s new Minister of State, effective July 4. With an illustrious career in the French Council of State and SNCF, and notable work in the Ministry of Justice and anti-corruption efforts, Mettoux brings deep institutional expertise to the role.
In basketball, it’s all to play for in the Betclic Elite semi-finals. Villeurbanne thrashed a depleted Monaco side 94–74 in Game 1 on Tuesday night in Lyon, as the Roca Team struggled without key players Mike James and Daniel Theis. But Monaco bounced back in style in Game 2, levelling the series and reclaiming home advantage in front of their home crowd.

This week on NEWS.MC TV, we bring you the latest from the Principality, where legacy, sport, and celebration take centre stage.
Monaco paid tribute to a motorsport legend on May 23 with the launch of a foundation honouring the life and achievements of Eddie Jordan. The former F1 team boss, entrepreneur and much-loved broadcaster passed away earlier this year in South Africa. The foundation, based in Monaco, aims to continue his work in motorsport, education, and youth development.
Engines roared and champagne flowed as the Monaco Grand Prix once again delivered a weekend of high-octane glamour. A surprise winner kept fans on the edge of their seats in what proved to be one of the most unpredictable races in recent memory. Celebrities, royalty and racing fans alike packed the harbour to witness the world’s most iconic street race.
Monaco’s athletes marched with pride into the Estadi Nacional in Andorra on May 27, kicking off the 20th edition of the Games of the Small States of Europe. With 123 athletes competing across various disciplines, the Principality is hoping to make its mark at the week-long international competition.
Culinary prestige returned home as Marcel Ravin, Monaco’s own gastronomic maestro, was crowned top chef at the 2025 Hôtel & Lodge Awards in Paris. Recognised for his signature fusion of Caribbean flavours and Mediterranean precision, Ravin’s work at Blue Bay and Elsa continues to define Monaco’s fine dining scene.
In the business world, Société des Bains de Mer announced record-breaking results for the 2024–2025 financial year. With turnover climbing 9 percent to €768 million and consolidated profit hitting €110 million, SBM continues to demonstrate its central role in Monaco’s economic vitality.
On the basketball court, Monaco’s Roca Team experienced both the agony and ecstasy of elite sport. After falling 80–70 to Fenerbahçe in their first-ever Euroleague final on May 25, the team bounced back just days later with a determined 76–69 win over Le Mans in the Betclic Elite quarter-final first leg.

NEWS.MC TV brings you the top headlines from Monaco this week — a week of culture, history, diplomacy, and a touch of sporting flair.
Monaco’s literary scene took the spotlight as the Prince Pierre Foundation unveiled the finalists for the prestigious 2025 Literary Prize and Discovery Grant. The announcement came during a meeting of the Foundation’s Literary Council, chaired by Her Royal Highness the Princess of Hanover, at the Ritz in Paris on May 14. The shortlists reaffirm Monaco’s enduring dedication to the arts and literary excellence.
In a nod to history, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II continued his tour of ancestral Grimaldi territories with an official visit to southern Italy. This follows his recent journey through the French Ardennes, as the Prince strengthens Monaco’s cultural and historical connections across Europe.
Meanwhile, HSH Princess Charlene is diving into community outreach — quite literally. On May 15, her foundation unveiled a mobile aquatic centre in the village of Allos in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. The initiative aims to promote water safety and swimming education in remote areas, bringing the Princess’s mission to rural communities.
Diplomatic affairs saw Prince Albert II in Tirana on May 16 for the 6th Summit of the European Political Community. The summit brought together heads of state to discuss regional stability, energy, and shared challenges across the continent.
Religion and royalty met in Rome on May 18 as the Princely couple attended the inauguration mass of Pope Leo XIV, held in a packed St. Peter’s Square just ten days after the pontiff’s election. The occasion marked a significant moment in global religious diplomacy.
Back in the Principality, Monaco’s Fire Brigade revealed a new badge design — only the third in its long history — during a ceremony at the Condamine relief centre on May 19. The update symbolises modernisation while preserving the corps’ proud traditions.
Shifting gears — quite literally — Prince Albert II launched Monaco’s first-ever cycling academy on May 21. The project reflects the Principality’s growing passion for cycling and offers a structured pathway for aspiring riders to develop under expert guidance.
Finally, the much-loved pre-Grand Prix charity football match made its return to Stade Louis-II, rebranded as the Racing Stars Football Cup. Held on May 21, the game saw Formula 1 drivers trade wheels for boots in a spirited clash against the Barbagiuans of Monaco, drawing celebrities and fans alike in a celebration of sport and solidarity.

This week, NEWS.MC TV brings you the top stories from the Principality — from economic law to classic roulette wheels — and a very special guest interview on the power of cultural diplomacy.
We begin with a major milestone in maritime law. On May 8th, the Institute of Economic Law of the Sea (INDEMER) celebrated 40 years of shaping international marine policy. Held under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, the anniversary conference brought together legal experts and policymakers to reflect on four decades of progress and future challenges facing global ocean governance.
Speed met splendour at the 20th edition of Top Marques Monaco, which revved into the Grimaldi Forum from May 8 to 11. With more than 190 vehicles on display — from hypercars to hydrogen prototypes — and a record-breaking 100 exhibitors, this landmark event once again positioned Monaco at the forefront of automotive luxury and innovation.
On May 8th, World Red Cross Day was marked with a heartfelt tribute to Henri Dunant, founder of the Red Cross, born in 1828. The Monegasque Red Cross opened its doors to the public, showcasing its vital humanitarian work and inviting new volunteers to join its mission.
Art history rolled the dice at the Monte Carlo Casino on May 9th, where Marcel Duchamp’s centenarian masterpiece “Obligation pour la Roulette de Monte-Carlo” was honoured in a symbolic return to its birthplace. The conceptual piece — part art, part satire, part gamble — was celebrated with a tribute worthy of the Dada pioneer.
Dog lovers gathered in Fontvieille for the International Dog Show of Monaco 2025, where 1,432 dogs representing 162 breeds competed under the iconic white marquee. The event continues to grow as a prestigious stop in the international canine calendar.
Meanwhile, musical magic swept through the Rainier III Auditorium on May 11th, as the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra delivered a dazzling evening of American and Latin American symphonies. The performance lit up the stage with rhythms from Cuba to Copland.
On May 12th, Prince Albert II visited the village of Malaussène to inaugurate the fully restored historic mill and canal, severely damaged by Storm Alex in 2020. The project stands as a testament to Monaco’s commitment to preserving regional heritage in partnership with the Alpes-Maritimes.
Diplomacy took centre stage on two fronts. First, Monaco and Italy strengthened cross-border ties through the Third Italian-Monegasque Joint Commission on Administrative Cooperation, held on May 12th. Then, on May 14th, Monaco participated in the 134th session of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers in Luxembourg — a pivotal meeting focused on democratic resilience and ongoing crises, including the war in Ukraine. Monaco’s involvement comes as it prepares to assume the Council presidency later this year.
This week’s special guest is Maxim Berin, CEO of Berin Iglesias Art, one of the leading forces in European cultural production. In an exclusive interview, he shares his vision for the role of arts in diplomacy, the evolving landscape of luxury entertainment, and how Monaco is becoming a key stage for world-class cultural experiences.
