  • Episode 5: If I Cared I Would Do It!

    Send a text

In this weeks episode, I share a recap from a coaching session I had with a client who was putting off a phone call she really needed to make. You will be able to see how, through the coaching process, we uncovered a story she was telling herself about WHY she wasn't doing it and how that story was bringing up a lot of shame for her.   I'll talk about how experiences from our past can really impact the narrative we create about ourselves, as well as how we can disrupt those narratives by understanding the experience through the lens of ADHD.  You'll listen to how this client was able to dismantle some beliefs she has about herself so she could focus instead on figuring out what support she needed in order to make the call.

The narrative we uncovered in this session is probably one that MANY people with ADHD can relate to, and it's so important for us to understand where it came from.  I'll show you how understanding our interest-based nervous system can help explain why this narrative is simply not true.

  • Episode 4: I Need to Organize my Life!

    Send a text

In this weeks episode, I share a recap from a coaching session I had with a client who was feeling really anxious about her classroom being such "a mess".  She was getting really frustrated and stressed out about how much of her time is spent looking for things she can't find, and was really wishing she could just be more organized.  I will share how, through the coaching process, we uncovered the thoughts that were creating a lot of overwhelm as well as shame,  leaving her exhausted and unable to figure out where to start, let alone do anything  about it.  I'll discuss the effects of our negative self talk on our emotions and energy levels, as well as how understanding our brains can help us shift to a more compassionate way of speaking to ourselves.  We also discussed  how overwhelm can REALLY prevent us from taking action and I explain how Newton's Law of Inertia is basically describing those of us with ADHD.

I know organization and losing things is something SO many of us struggle with and often times, our thoughts are really keeping us from finding systems that do work for us.   Main stream/neurotypical advice about the "correct" way to be organized doesn't tend to work for ADHD brains which is why it's so important that we really consider what DOES work for us and let go of how it's "supposed" to look.  Make sure to listen for some important strategies and things to consider when addressing "the mess"!

  • Episode 3: I Have to do it All!

    Send a text

In this weeks episode, I share a recap from a coaching session I had with a client who was feeling like she was drowning in all the things she had to do and she didn't like the idea of asking for help or delegating.   I will share how, through the coaching process, we uncovered some thoughts that were preventing her from reaching out for support as well as how difficulty with emotional regulation was playing a huge role in all of it.    I'll cover topics such as why we so often feel the need to "prove" ourselves to others and what we tend to base our value as human beings on.  You'll see how this client was able challenge some beliefs she had about herself that was making her feel like she had to do it all.

This client was also able to take what she learned about herself in this session and notice how it applied to a many things that were happening in other areas of her life, and hopefully you will also be able to take the parts that you can relate to and see how it's showing up in YOUR life.

  • Episode 2: I Have to Buy the "Correct" Soap!

    Send a text

In this weeks episode, I share a recap from a coaching session I had with a client who was having difficulty purchasing soap. I will share how, through the coaching process, we uncovered how his thoughts about choosing which soap to buy were actually making the task much more challenging for him.  I'll talk about "black and white" thinking  and why it's is so common amongst people with ADHD as well as how deficits in emotional regulation can lead to avoidance and procrastination. You'll see how this client was able challenge some beliefs he has about himself as he gained more awareness around what was preventing him from completing this task.

While this situation was specifically about the task of buying soap, the insights this client took away from this session will apply to so many other areas of his life.  So even if you  haven't experienced the same exact thing in your own life, I'm sure there are other tasks you've been avoiding and putting off and this episode might help you figure out some of the reasons why.

Welcome to Monday Morning ADHD coaching, I'm Emily Weinberg and I'm a certified ADHD coach. I support adults who are feeling stuck, overwhelmed and not in control of their own lives. Unfortunately there are many barriers in the way of making ADHD coaching accessible to everyone and so this podcast is intended to give you, the listener, some of that access. Each episode will provide an inside look at what can happen within a coaching session. I will do this by sharing a summary each week from a session I've had with a client.  My hope is that you will not only feel less alone in your own struggles, but that you will also come away with new insights and awareness you can apply to your own life and learn ways you can support your ADHD.
