The horrendous and baffling murders of Nancy Lagerquist and Bertha Scott at Riverside Health Care Center have remained unsolved for the past 30 years and have had lasting impacts on law enforcement and one local newspaper journalist.

The mysterious abduction, rape and murder of Nancy Lagerquist, an 87-year-old Riverside Health Care Center nursing home resident, put Missoula police on a path of looking at all small clues to help them solve the crime. The investigation took them to a place that they never thought they would find themselves-- a city cemetery. There, another clue to the case would be found six-feet-under-- a second murder victim by the name of Bertha E. Scott.

In 1990, the body of an elderly woman was found naked, badly bruised and raped all while lying face down in the willows alongside Missoula's Clark Fork River. Even in the hot summer, the murder of Nancy Z. Lagerquist was so chilling, so bizarre that it had law enforcement and an ambitious crime reporter looking at finite evidence to solve the case.

We bring you another breaking news episode of Montana Murder Mysteries as Leon Ford, the man accused of killing John "Mike" Crites in 2011, has been extradited back to Montana.

On October 5, 2011, two forest service made a gruesome discovery when they stumbled upon a garbage bag filled with dismembered human remains on MacDonald Pass.
The incomplete skeleton was identified as the remains of John “Mike” Crites, a Helena area man who had been missing for several months. To this day, no one has been charged with his murder.
