Beach Patrol Morning Update!
Surfers and coastal adventurers, listen up! The New York coastline is serving up some serious wave action today with high rip current risks that demand your full attention.
We're looking at cloudy skies with a chance of rain across Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk beaches. Temperatures hovering in the upper 60s mean you'll want a light jacket, but the surf is definitely stirring up some excitement.
Waves are rolling in around 3 to 4 feet with east winds cranking between 15 to 20 miles per hour. Translation: These are not conditions for casual swimmers or inexperienced surfers.
The National Weather Service has issued a HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK until 6 PM today. This means the ocean is basically telling you to stay on the sand unless you've got serious skills and safety gear.
Surf temperatures are in the upper 60s, making it chilly enough to warrant a wetsuit. UV index is low, so no sunburn worries today, but plenty of current concerns.
Critical safety tip: If you get caught in a rip current, do NOT fight it. Relax, float, and signal for help. Swim parallel to the shore if you can, and always stay near a lifeguard.
Low tide times range from 11:53 AM to 12:07 PM across different beaches, so plan your beach strategy accordingly.
One last heads up - these beach forecasts are taking a winter break and won't resume until May 22nd next year. So make these late September waves count, sea lovers!
Stay safe, stay smart, and respect the ocean.
