Nobody really talks about what it feels like to be in your early 40s and not quite know who you're becoming.

In this episode, I sit down with Lyssandra, a nutritionist, herbalist, and women's health educator in Los Angeles who is 41 and right in the thick of her early perimenopause. We talk about her first bleed, losing her period for a full year in her late 20s from stress and being in the wrong relationship, getting hot flashes the second she turned 40, and the brain blips that have been showing up lately that nobody warned her about.

Savannah's first bleed story starts with her mom looking at the toilet paper and saying "oh, fuck."

Her pregnancy test. Same thing. "Oh, fuck."

She never put that together until we were sitting here recording. And that's kind of what this whole episode is - a woman finally connecting the dots of her own story and realizing how deep the wound of unprotected womanhood actually runs.

Savannah Dew is a doula in Central Texas, and she has one of the most extraordinary life stories I have ever had the honor of holding space for. We talk about growing up without a father, a first bleed with no reverence, an unplanned pregnancy at 21, and then the stillbirth of her son Ambroise — and the 26 hours she spent with him that she describes as the most love she has ever felt in her life.

We also talk about free birth, what it actually means to feel protected as a woman, the matriarchal wound she can trace back six generations, and how she finally found God in the room where her baby was gone.
