Moonlighting The Podcast

SYNOPSIS:

David arrives at Blue Moon to find the staff busily cleaning and polishing the office in preparation for Walter’s visit. Herbert is less enthusiastic, describing him as “the human goiter on the neck of life.” When Walter arrives, David introduces himself and downplays his relationship with Maddie, giving Walter a very different impression from what he has previously heard.

During one of their familiar, fast-paced arguments, Maddie tells David she wishes she’d had a lavish wedding to show Walter how much she loves him. Inspired, David decides to organise the celebration himself, while Herbert and McGillicuddy plan a bachelor party for the groom. When the stripper calls in sick, Herbert secretly takes her place, emerging from an oversized cake and performing a routine in one of Moonlighting’s most hilarious and memorable scenes.

David brings Terri, his Lamaze class partner, to the wedding, leaving Maddie distracted by the unfamiliar woman sitting beside him. When Terri goes into labour during the ceremony, the festivities give way to a frantic trip to the hospital.

Amid the chaos, Maddie and David’s bickering reaches boiling point. They insist they hate each other, but Terri has heard enough and tells them what everyone else can see: they’re in love and should just kiss already! Fans are rewarded with another passionate kiss, while Walter delivers the baby, Walter Hayes Addison Knowles. The episode closes with a touching moment between Maddie and David.

In this special episode of Moonlighting The Podcast, Grace and Shawna are joined by Margie Arnett, who worked as Cybill Shepherd’s stand-in and body double on Moonlighting.

Margi joined the series during Season Four, beginning with the episode Tracks of My Tears, and continued working on the show throughout Season Five. Her unique role placed her right in the middle of the production, giving her a fascinating behind-the-scenes perspective on what it was like to work on one of television’s most iconic shows.

Margi also worked with Cybill Shepherd on the 1989 film Chances Are, once again serving as her stand-in and body double.

Beyond Moonlighting, Margi appeared as an extra and in small roles across a number of television shows and films, including Once a Hero, Beauty and the Beast, 8 Again!, Trouble in the City of Angels and Little Nikita.

During our conversation, Margi shares memories from her time on the Moonlighting set, what the job of a stand-in and body double actually involved, and some wonderful behind-the-scenes stories from working alongside Cybill Shepherd and the cast and crew.

This week we’re delighted to welcome back our good friend, Danielle La Bue, to Moonlighting The Podcast.

Danielle has been a valued guest on the show several times, sharing her extensive knowledge of the original Moonlighting shooting scripts and offering fascinating behind-the-scenes insights that fans have come to love.

This episode begins with several dream sequences that include guest star Pat Boone as the future David. After these dreams (and nightmares), Maddie wakes up and she is on the train traveling back to Los Angeles. She is still unsure whether or not she and David should resume their relationship.

Maddie then meets a man on the train named Walter Bishop, and they tell each other about their lives, even though Maddie does blur the truth a little.

You finally see Maddie walking down the hallway to Blue Moon. She’s apprehensive, not knowing what sort of welcome awaits her there.

As soon as they see Maddie, the employees roll out the red carpet; they’re so excited to see her back at work.

David is so happy that she has finally returned but they get into an argument when she says she needs more time. David has had it with waiting; he has been waiting for four and half months. They both apologize and say that they have missed each other. David thinks things are now going well until Maddie drops the biggest bombshell ever to be imposed on Moonlighting fans.
