In this episode the host of Moony Birth Stories, Ali from Saskatoon, shares her own pregnancy and birth story of her first baby Jackson. She shares about her positive pregnancy experience with gestational diabetes. Her plan and preparation for a home birth under midwifery care. Then at almost 38 weeks, her water broke and labour followed slowly. Ali transferred to the hospital after labouring at home where they discovered that baby was breech and so she then went in for a c-section. Ali also shares more about her postpartum experience.

In part two of Alina’s story, she shares the fast hospital delivery of her daughter. Alina is a social worker that delivered at the Regina General Hospital. She went into labour spontaneously and went on to have a quick unmedicated delivery. During this birth she did experience a postpartum hemorrhage.

Kim had an uneventful pregnancy until near the end when she went 10 days overdue and developed a puppp rash. She went in for an induction that involved the balloon, pitocin, and a failed epidural. Carly from Saskatoon shares the story of her daughter, Nora. Carly took courses, planned for a home birth, and was excited for birth. At 40+3, labour began spontaneously and continued over the next few days. After a long labour and limited support, Carly and her husband agreed to go to the hospital to receive an epidural and begin pitocin. In labour, Carly developed an infection which she received antibiotics for and all was well. Her daughter was born vaginally and they experienced a few challenges immediately postpartum. Ali and Carly conclude with a conversation about a few things she wished she had done differently during the planning process of birth.

On this episode of Moony Birth Stories, Ali sits down to chat with Brittani from St.Walburg, Sk. Brittani was under the care of an OB in North Battleford, Sk as her original plan was to deliver there.

 She had a pretty uneventful pregnancy until 30 weeks when she experienced preterm prelabour rupture of membranes (PPROM). Brittani was transferred to JPCH in Saskatoon where she was admitted to await the arrival of her baby. Labour began spontaneously where she goes on to have a vaginal delivery with an epidural. As her son was premature, they spent 28 days in the NICU. Brittani was delighted when they brought their son home.

Alyssa’s first birth was a hospital birth under the care of a midwife. She initially felt very fearful of birth, but after diving deep into research she planned for a hospital water birth. Alyssa unfortunately had a negative experience with her first doula but thankfully had the support of her midwife and husband. Alyssa goes on to share her experience with oral ties. 

Alyssa’s plan for her second birth remained the same as with her first and this time they hired a doula that was more aligned with them. Alyssa went on to have another incredible hospital water birth. She experienced a significant amount of bleeding postpartum which led to another hospital visit.

Donna from Saskatoon shares the story of her son. Donna’s experience was shaped by the pandemic which included a lot of uncertainty during the last half of her pregnancy. Donna’s labour progressed on its own after her water broke. Donna laboured to 10 centimeters, however during the pushing stage it was determined that she would go for an emergency c-section. Donna’s experience postpartum was difficult due to limited supports during the pandemic.

On this episode of Moony Birth Stories, Ali sits down to chat with Taylor as she recounts the birth of her daughter, Vienna. Taylor had an uneventful pregnancy with an iron transfusion near the end. She had a few trips to the hospital where she was sent home at 2cm. She was then admitted, received an epidural, and laboured throughout the day. She ultimately had forceps for delivery and had a third degree tear. 

Taylor opens up about her experience during the postpartum period, including recovery from a third degree tear, postpartum anxiety, and about her feeding journey.
