Have you ever wondered how a conservation initiative goes from thought to paper to action? The balance between making our lives easier, the expansion of industry, and the continued protection of nature is something that proves to be a delicate balancing act. When all sides come together to work towards a common goal great things can happen.

Ethan Askey is based in Calgary and works as a Transportation Association of Canada volunteer and Manager responsible for the environmental regulatory compliance and sustainability performance of Calgary’s transportation department. He will be talking about some of the conservation projects he has been involved in, including the protection of the Tatshenshini-Alsek river.

For more than 30 years the Calgary zoo has gone above and beyond with their work with wildlife and is working to become a leader in wildlife conservation.  This year the Wilder Institute was established and oversees the Zoo's conservation initiatives. Their mission is to strengthen the relationship between humans and wildlife to ensure a sustainable world. Animals have adapted to living in our urban spaces but sometimes they need some extra help.
