This week, Sheila joins me for a brutally funny and honest conversation about dating after 50. Where do single people even meet anymore? Dating apps? Bars? The grocery store? And if the grocery store really is an option, exactly how are you supposed to know whether somebody is shopping for dinner or hoping to get asked out? We talk about why dating seems so much harder now, why some guys get so damn weird, and Sheila answers the question nobody asked but I absolutely needed to know: How many unwanted private-part pictures has she been sent in her lifetime? But underneath all the laughs, we get into something a little more real. What are we actually looking for at this age? How do you recognize the right person when they come along? Do you keep looking, or eventually accept that maybe there isn't somebody out there for everyone? And that includes Sheila...and maybe me too. It's dating, loneliness, relationships, unsolicited pictures, grocery-store romance, and trying to figure out love when you're old enough to know better. Welcome to the More Donut Podcast.
This week on More Donut Podcast, I’m flying solo and diving into the TikToks that made me stop scrolling and say, “Okay, we need to talk about this.” We get into men letting their women drive — does it actually say anything about the man? Then we tackle the bigger question: does the man need to be the leader of the household, and is that really what women want? Then things get political. We talk about Donald Trump and the promises he’s made, plus Mitch McConnell’s recent return to the Senate after a three-month absence following a fall and hospitalization. Reuters And, of course, we address one of the most pressing issues facing America today: How in the hell does JD Vance get his eyeliner looking that good? TikTok reactions, relationships, politics, gender roles, and whatever else crosses my mind.
This week on the More Donut Podcast, I sit down with my little brother and go back to where we came from. We talk about growing up poor in a rough neighborhood, living in an abusive home, and what it was like having a stepfather who wasn't always kind to us. We remember some of the kids we grew up with, the trouble around the neighborhood, and the experiences that shaped both of us in different ways. But this episode isn't only about the bad times. My brother talks about getting out, going to college, and eventually becoming a bouncer at a busy college bar — which led to some absolutely crazy stories. Fights, drunk college kids, wild nights, and the kind of things you only see when you're standing at the door of a packed college bar. Two brothers. The same childhood. Two different paths. Some of these stories are funny. Some are difficult. And some we probably haven't talked about in years.
This week on the More Donut Podcast, we pull up a seat on what Ken officially named the “Pod Casting Couch” and bounce through some of the stories and questions that caught our attention this week. We compare the American work week with life in Norway and ask whether Americans are simply working too damn much. We get into policing and whether officers in the U.S. need more training, then talk about how the news media has shifted from delivering information to selling opinions — and what that's done to the way we see the world. Then things get weird. We dig into the prostitution-sting story involving a San Francisco 49ers owner and the case of De’Jon Love, accused of scamming women out of serious money. Current events, arguments, laughs, questionable opinions, and absolutely no idea where the conversation is going next.
Halloween is coming, so this week we’re talking horror movies — the ones we love, the ones we don’t, and whether there are any scary movies we just flat-out can’t stand. We take a deeper look at It Follows and the strange, often misunderstood Halloween III: Season of the Witch, plus a few other horror favorites that find their way into the conversation. We also wander into a little politics along the way — because apparently we can’t talk about anything without getting sidetracked eventually. From classic Halloween horror to modern movies that genuinely get under your skin, this episode is basically two people sitting down and talking about what makes a scary movie actually work.
Sometimes life doesn't give you a plan. You just have to figure it out as you go. In this episode, I sit down with a young mother navigating motherhood, raising a teenage son, divorce, and the uncertainty of starting over. We talk about what it's like to wonder if you'll ever find love again, learning who you are when a relationship ends, and trying to build a new life when you don't really know what that life is supposed to look like yet. Mostly, though, we talk about being human—the mistakes, fears, hope, relationships, and strange turns that make up a life. And because apparently the universe wanted to participate in this conversation, we battled technical difficulties pretty much the entire way through. But we kept going. Because sometimes that's life too.
Today on the More Donut Podcast, I sit down with my dad and talk about his life—the good parts, the hard parts, and the mistakes that helped shape the man and father he became. We go back to growing up on Main Street, becoming a father when he was still just a kid himself, and being sent to Vietnam. We talk about what it was like coming home from war and trying to figure out how to be a husband, a father, and an adult when he was still trying to figure out who he was. We also get into some of the mistakes he made along the way, how he looks at those choices today, and the relationship he and I have had through the years—the good, the bad, and everything in between. Of course, we wander a little too. We talk politics, getting older, family, and life in general. This one isn't really about having all the answers. It's about a father and son sitting down, looking back, and talking honestly about a life that didn't always go according to plans.
In this episode of the More Donut Podcast, we talk about what happens when life doesn’t go according to some perfectly laid-out plan—and how sometimes that turns out to be a good thing. We talk about becoming a teenage mother, trying to figure out what you’re supposed to do with your life, and eventually finding a successful career in teaching and getting to make a living doing something you genuinely love. We also get into raising boys in today’s world and the pressure boys often feel to hide the sensitive, emotional side of themselves. What do we lose when we teach boys that being vulnerable means being weak? This conversation is really about growing up, raising kids, finding your way, and realizing that you don’t always have to know where you’re going. Sometimes you float through life, make the best decisions you can along the way, and somehow things have a way of working out. And when you finally look around, you realize just how great life can be.
What does it really mean to be Wiccan in today's world? In this episode, I sit down with a practicing Wiccan to separate fact from fiction. We talk about the Salem Witch Trials, the history of witches, and why so many misconceptions still exist today. We also dive into what it was like for her to tell friends, family, and even her husband about her beliefs, the stereotypes she's faced, and what she wishes people understood about Wicca. It's an honest, respectful conversation about history, spirituality, and finding the courage to be yourself.
In this episode of More Donut Podcast, we tackle one of the toughest—and most important—subjects we've ever discussed. We talk honestly about how a few bad decisions can completely change the course of a person's life. From DUIs and drug addiction to loss, grief, and the life-altering consequences that follow, we explore how quickly everything can change. But this isn't just a conversation about mistakes—it's about redemption. We discuss being forced to face reality, rebuilding after hitting rock bottom, and the incredible strength it takes to become a better version of yourself. We also dive into mental health, the importance of asking for help, and why healing is possible no matter how far you've fallen. This episode is raw, honest, and ultimately hopeful. If you've ever struggled, watched someone you love battle addiction or mental health issues, or simply believe people deserve a second chance, this is a conversation you won't want to miss. Sometimes the worst chapter of your life becomes the beginning of your best one.
