Natalia recently finished a semester-long internship with the National Science Foundation (NSF) as their Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) intern working with the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) at St. Georges, Bermuda!

In this episode we talk about the work she did protecting the reefs in Bermuda, how climate change is effecting the world around us, how COVID effected her internship, how to make a difference when it come to climate change, and more!

In this episode, the FIU Honors College was joined by FIU alumna and FIU Foundation Board of Directors Member Jill Granat.  Jill is General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, and Chief Compliance Officer for Restaurant Brands International (RBI). She is responsible for the Burger King Corporation's global legal and corporate governance affairs and manages the company’s worldwide ethics and compliance program. Jill reports to the Chief Executive Officer of Burger King Corporation.  She holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida and a Bachelor of Science in hospitality management from FIU.  In this episode, the participants talk about what hospitality law is, what Jill’s role at RBI looks like day-to-day, how listeners can get involved in the hospitality industry, influential professors, and more!

Dr. Monteith is a proud Honors Alumna! Dr. Monteith is the Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology and Chief of the Division of Headache in the Department of Neurology at the University of Miami. She also has clinics at the Advanced Institute for Pain Management. Dr. Monteith’s research focus is on migraine and chronic disease states including chronic migraine and concussion. Her research focuses on neurometabolite distributions of chronic migraine and associations with indicators of clinical severity, including psychosocial impact.

On this episode we discuss her journey to where she is today, her work in headache medicine, COVID-19 looking forward, and the importance of social justice within the medical field!
