Jay Colby is a writer, journalist and entrepreneur. Jay founded The Black Detour to not only change the often negative perception of Black people in mainstream media, but to create a space where Black people can voice their opinion freely. He is also a college graduate and has dedicated his life to helping the disenfranchised.

Raquel Martin, M.S. is from Philly and currently resides in the DMV area. She is a PhD candidate in Medical & Clinical Psychology and a Pre-Doctoral intern at Johns Hopkins, Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, MD. Raquel received her BA in Psychology from Fisk University and is a proud Fiskite. She also earned a MS in Psychology from Lipscomb University, and a MS in Medical & Clinical Psychology from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Ms. Martin's has worked primarily in community mental health with children, adolescents, and families. She has provided services at juvenile detention centers, residential facilities, hospitals, and schools. Additionally, she has worked in private private practice administering psychological assessments for diagnostic clarification. Her research and clinical interests include child/adolescent mental health, psychodiagnostic assessment, implicit bias, trauma, and minority health disparities.

Doctoral student Marques R. Dexter joined me on this episode to talk about his life as a former student-athlete, coach, and now scholar. How those identities combine. What his passions are and how he found them. What led him from the East Coast to The South.
