    Māori Party candidate, Debbie Ngarewa-Packer has indicated the National Party's veering to the right under the current leader is partly to blame for the parties breaking ties. 
    Māori Party President Che Wilson has expressed his preference to work with Labour, if the party gets a foothold this election. 
    The party had supported National until it endured a crushing defeat in the 2017 election. 
    Te Tai Hauāuru candiate Ngarewa-Packer told RNZ political reporter Charlie Dreaver National has changed in recent years.

    An electrical fire in a signal cabinet is causing major headaches for Auckland's metro train commuters this morning.

  • Ireland election: Main parties neck and neck
    Ballots are being counted in the Irish general election with exit polls showing all three main parties neck and neck.
    Fine Gael, the centre-right party led by prime minister Leo Varadkar is facing a strong challenge from its historical rival, the centrist Fianna Fail.
    Both these stalwarts of Irish politics are losing votes to the left-wing Irish nationalists Sinn Féin.

  • Fire-hit Australia now facing floods
    Australia continues to be battered with cylcones, heatwaves, bushfires and floods this week.
    A dozen fires continue to burn in Western Australia, with temperatures forecast to reach 42C today, while other parts of the state are dealing with the aftermath of a tropical cyclone that brought gusty winds of up to 200km/h.
    Meanwhile on the east coast of Australia, New South Wales and Queensland faced potentially life threatening flash flooding as heavy rainfall continued for a third day.
    Fire officials said the downpours have provided relief to fire ravaged areas, extinguishing about a third of the blazes in New South Wales.

  • Strong words for Pacific Island politicians at pride event OurMarch
    The continued illegality of homosexuality around Oceania was the focus for the Pacific community at a 7000 strong Rainbow pride march in Auckland on the weekend.
    The Pasifika contingent took pride of place leading Saturday's OurMarch but there were strong words for Pacific Islands politicians.

  • Black Caps bounce back from India drubbing
    The Black Caps have bounced back from their drubbing at the hands of India in the T20s, to take a two-nil lead in the three-match one day series.
    In the second one dayer on Saturday night a depleted New Zealand side posted 273 for eight and bowled out India for 251.
    Debutant Kyle Jamieson, who made 25 not out in an unbroken 76 run ninth wicket stand with Ross Taylor, and also took two wickets was player of the match.
