  • Today In Country Music: Little Big Town's "Girl Crush" Was Not About Lesbians
Hey, let’s go back to 2014, when a lot of people thought this song was actually about having a crush on a girl...
“Girl Crush” was one of the most talked-about country singles of the late 2000s. Little Big Town topped the country singles chart for 13 weeks, although some radio stations pulled the song from their rotation for just a brief moment after controversies stirred that the song was about being a lesbian.
Side note, there is nothing wrong with being a lesbian, but at the time, the world didn’t view same sex relationships with acceptance or kindness. The song was actually about jealousy and heartbreak, told from the perspective of a woman so obsessed with her ex’s new partner that she envies her in every way.
Little Big Town says they never set out to write a scandal–just a really good heartbreak song - they did it.

Their transparency humanized them and deepened their connection to their fans.

  • Taylor Swift's 10-Minute Version Of "All Too Well" Was #1 On Hot Country Songs Chart In 2021
Let’s go back to 2021, when Taylor Swift was #1 on the Hot Country Songs chart, making her return to the country charts after her ten-minute version of “All Too Well” was released
Yeah, this song set a world record; it was the longest song in history to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it was the longest #1 country hit ever. On top of that, Taylor wasn’t actively promoting to country radio, so the success of “Taylor Version” tracks proved how strong her country fanbase still was.
Taylor also released the “All Too Well” short film featuring Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink and “Teen Wolf” star Dylan O’Brien, and the film was entirely directed by Taylor.
And fun fact, Sadie was cast because Taylor is a huge “Stranger Things” fan, and she felt Sadie would be able to really portray the emotion of the song. Both Sadie and Dylan said it felt like they were filming a full movie with how deep they had to go emotionally, despite the shoot only being a couple of days long.
