  • Paddy Sweeny - Jesse Hogan
Jesse Hogan has been charged by WA Police after he allegedly breached self-quarantine requirements. Jesse returned to WA on 21 September and was required to self-quarantine at his home for 14 days. This was due to expire at midnight on the 5th October. Jesse has been charged with two counts of Failure to Comply with a Direction and will be summoned to appear in court at a later date.
In a statement Fremantle Dockers said:
Jesse Hogan informed the club on Tuesday evening that he had been visited at his home by police in accordance with the WA Government’s quarantine monitoring procedures.
In the course of police attending his residence last night, Hogan confirmed to police that he had a female visitor attend his home last Tuesday (22 September) and enter the premises, in breach of the WA Government’s Quarantine Directions Orders.
The matter is now under police investigation.
Police have advised, however, that Hogan is required to complete the remainder of his 14-day quarantine period in a hotel.
“Our players and staff are all well aware of the restrictions they are all required to comply with while in quarantine and the broader obligation the club has to the community to do so,” CEO Simon Garlick said.
“We have worked very closely and effectively with WA police, the State Government and the AFL throughout the year, which provided us with the opportunity to complete our AFL season.
“The cooperation and understanding we have received from all parties during the season is something we do not take for granted. This makes the breach even more disappointing and incredibly frustrating.
“We will wait for Jesse to complete his hotel quarantine before determining what club-imposed sanction he will face.
“In the meantime, we will be reinforcing with all quarantined players and staff the importance of strict adherence to their quarantine protocols.”
The club has also advised the AFL of the matter.

  • David Lock - Odeum - Worker shortage
The Federal Government are set to introduce a plan to combat the chronic and worsening worker shortage in our agricultural industries around the country.  It is understood that the Government will extend visas for backpackers and seasonal workers and offer incentives to welfare recipients. Under the plan people on Job Seeker will be able to earn up to $300 a fortnight in agriculture industries without it impacting their payment.
David Lock, Chairperson of Odeum Farms says that the situation is pretty dire and while they would prefer Australians to do the work, typically Australian workers prefer to do work that is less hard.

In the determination the AFCA ruled that the tenants are entitled to recover almost all of their $276,000 investment. The panel found that there was misleading representations of the level of risk and security of the investment.
Sterling victim’s advocate Cath Dall says that ‘this is a fantastic return and again it reduces that level of stress for those who are still waiting to find out exactly what’s going to happen.”

In the largest study of its kind to date, researchers have identified 48 genetic variants that influence if a person is left-handed, right-handed or ambidextrous. Researchers have also confirmed that environment plays a larger part than genes in which hand a person prefers to use. Genetic data was analysed from more than 1.7 million people.
The research was led by QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute and The University of Queensland.  Co-senior author and head of QIMR Berghofer’s Psychiatric Genetics Group, Professor Sarah Medland says they work on handedness because it helps them to understand the way that the brain is organised and also because it is a very interesting human characteristic.
