With Timothy now part of their group, Paul and Silas continued with their plan to visit and strengthen the churches in Asia minor. But God had a bigger vision for what He wanted them to do, and a divine appointment for them to keep all the way over in Europe, so by closing doors and by giving Paul a direct vision, the Holy Spirit directed them right where He wanted them to go. What we have before us in this text is the first detailed case of demon possession and exorcism in the book of Acts. This passage is here to remind us that we are part of a spiritual war that has raged throughout the ages. Jesus Christ has struck the death-blow and proved that He is the reigning, conquering King. Though Satan is vanquished, he continues to operate with a form of guerrilla warfare, wreaking havoc wherever he can. Thus, we must remain vigilant and know that Christ always wins!
