Jesus is our only Savior.

The living Christ is both inclusive and exclusive: he is the Savior of all people, but he is also the only Savior of all people. We follow Jesus because there is no one else to follow.

Prayer:

O God, you form the minds of your faithful people into a single will. Make us love what you command and desire what you promise, that among the many changes of this world, our hearts may ever yearn for the lasting joys of heaven; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

God delivers his love to us.  You could stop there and this would be amazing enough.  But he delivers his love to us through means, means that we can see and touch and hear and smell and taste.  We can put our finger on it and gain extra comfort from the touch of God’s love!  Celebrate with us the marvel of the mercy of God and add one more thing to your long list of things for which to give thanks – the Means of Grace!!

Jesus is our Shepherd.

The picture of Jesus as a shepherd and his followers as the sheep is a picture that believers cherish. In the Good Shepherd, we see protection, safety, and loving leadership.

Prayer:

O Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Good Shepherd who laid down your life for the sheep. Lead us now to the still waters of your life-giving Word that we may abide in your Father's house forevermore; for you live and reign with him and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

You are one click away from a great discussion on the topic of faith.    It’s the topic of Chapter 13 of the book Grace Abounds and so it’s the topic of this week’s discussion.  Knowledge, Assent, Trust are the three aspects of faith.  All are gifts from God!   He’s given us the ability to know, agree and trust in him, in his promises and in the salvation that he provides for us!  Rejoice in what our God has done and how he’s given it to us freely by his grace!!

Jesus is our hope.

Sometimes we wonder how life can go on; it seems impossible to see the light at the end of the tunnel. After this or after that, what does the future hold? When he met them on the road to Emmaus, the living Jesus showed two down and out disciples that his resurrection changed their perspective. With Jesus, hope is always alive. 

Prayer:

O God, by the humiliation of your Son you lifted up this fallen world from the despair of death. By his resurrection to life, grant your faithful people gladness of heart and the hope of eternal joys; through your son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

It’s the best one there is – the crown jewel of Bible teachings – the doctrine of Justification.  Our Heavenly Father has declared us to be not guilty in his sight.  Jesus was willing to take the punishment for sin  and to become our atoning sacrifice.   Salvation is ours by grace.    It is ours solely because of  who God is and what he, in his loving kindness, was willing to accomplish for us and give to us!   To him be the glory!!  

Jesus is our joy

Hiding in a safe house in Jerusalem, Jesus' followers were filled with fear of the authorities and confusion over the Master's Whereabouts. Our fears and frustrations are not the same as theirs, but they are real just the same. The living Jesus puts fear to rest and fills his followers with confident joy. 

Prayer:

O risen Lord, you came to your disciples and took away their fears with your word of peace. Come to us also by Word and sacrament and banish our fears with the comforting assurance of your abiding presence; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

 Pastors Huebner and Hackmann join to discuss the next chapter - chapter 11 of Grace Abounds. It’s a dive into the work of Jesus.  He is our Redeemer. work for us.  We’ll explore his Humiliation and Exaltation and conclude with a review of his offices or roles for us of Prophet, Priest, and King.   Jesus fulfilled all these roles and carried them to perfection to be our Savior from sin.  

Jesus Lives!!

The Resurrection is the hope joy and life of the Christian!  Today is what it's all about!  Without Easter, there's no point to any of it! But Jesus is alive!!  He's paid for sin, he's conquered death and he's guaranteed our resurrection and place with him forever in glory!  That's why we shout: Alleluia!  Praise the Lord!"

Almighty God, through your only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, you overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life. We humbly pray that we may live before you in righteousness and purity forever; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
