  • See! The Pandemic Isn’t All Bad! A Special Treat for you in Trying Times! A Discussion on Grace Abounds Chapter 10: The Person of Christ

All 3 of the current pastors at Grace joined together (but not too close together)  to discuss the Person of Christ.  We have the perfect Savior,  not just the sinless, though he was.  We have precisely the Savior that we needed, the God-man!  Jesus Christ is the one who came to fulfill exactly what we needed to be our Savior – to stand in our place and be our substitute and to have his sacrifice be of value to us!   The Person of Christ is exactly the person that we need him to be.  We don’t have all the answers.  We can’t fully grasp the fullness of our Savior Lord, but what the Scriptures reveal we confess and in him we rejoice.

  • A Cry For Help | Psalm 130

    Jesus Conquers Death

"The last enemy to be destroyed is death," wrote St. Paul. Even believers face the inevitability of death. But Jesus, who conquered eternal death by offering himself on the cross, will also raise our bodies from the grave.

  • It’s a Show About Nothing! At least for the small talk at the beginning, then a good discussion commences on Grace Abounds Chapter 9: Actual Sin and the Law

It’s who we are!  It’s not anyone’s favorite - to talk about sin or to dwell on being a sinner, but it’s reality.  God knows who we are and we know who we are too.  We can’t fool him or ourselves.  We can’t hide from God and we shouldn’t try, but instead we ought to confess our sins to the Lord and then bask in his full and free and fantastic forgiveness!   Pastor Hackmann and Strong chat about this chapter from Grace Abounds and how we can embrace the law, because it drives us to the One who kept the law for us and now it shows us how to live!!  Jesus kept the law perfectly in our place, and now the law shines on our path and shows us how to live to thank him for his amazing love.

  • Look, You Blind, and See! | Isaiah 42:14-21

    Jesus conquers spiritual blindness.

Despite the magnificence of the human mind and for all its achievements, we lack the ability to gain insights into the love of God. Jesus gave sign to a blind man to illustrate his power to heal spiritual blindness.

    Prayer:

Almighty God, you sent your one and only Son as the Word of life for our eyes to see and our ears to hear. Help us believe what the Scriptures proclaim about him and do the things that are pleasing in your sight; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

  • You know, Viruses Wouldn’t Exist If It Weren’t for Sin: Grace Abounds Chapter 8: Original Sin

Pastor Hackmann and Huebner discuss the new normal at Grace thanks to the coronavirus and celebrate technology, like podcasting to be able to stay connected to people.  This week’s reading was on original sin and how it has impacted and every generation that has been born since the Fall.  The original sin in the Garden of Eden, now means that the rest of the human race inherits sin from their parents and is born in hostility to the gospel.  Even though sin is a stark reality for us, the fact that we are bound to sin and evil from birth, (and thus incapable of playing a part in our own salvation) makes Christ’s calling of us through the Means of Grace and his unconditional saving love that much more amazing!  He knew how powerless and weak we were, and he still saved us!!  All thanks be to our God!!

  • Jesus Quenches Our Thirst | John 4:5-26

    Jesus conquers spiritual thirst.

Parched and panting—that’s what we are without Jesus. Healthy on the outside by all appearances, but feeling the dry deadness of sin in our consciences. Jesus comes with the water of life, forgives our sins, and shows us a new life with him.

    Prayer:

O God, in your love you have always shown mercy. Be gracious to all who have gone astray from your ways and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word; through Jesus, Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Pastors Huebner and Hackmann discuss the differences between March in Wisconsin and Alaska and share their excitement (though one of them might have been faking it) for the upcoming Iditarod Sled Dog Race.   This week’s chapter is Chapter 6 – God’s Creating Activity.   This chapter offers a review of the Creation of the World and how God still daily preserves the entire world, and especially the crown of his creation, mankind!   “God does not concur with evil, but he normally won’t interrupt nature to prevent it either.”  “God’s foreknowledge of evil doesn’t make him culpable for that evil,” “It’s not God’s fault (or the teacher’s) that Fritz failed out of Geometry!”  and other truth gems await the reader of chapter 6 and the listener of this podcast!

  • Get Up and Go! | Genesis 12:1-8

    Jesus Conquers Uncertainty

God’s plan to save the world overturns human intelligence and logic: How can the innocent death of one man overcome the deserved death of the human race? Can this be true? Can we stake our lives on this? Jesus conquers our doubts and compels our confidence.

    Prayer:

Almighty God, you see that we have no power to defend ourselves. Guard and keep us both outwardly and inwardly from all adversities that may happen to the body and from all evil thoughts that may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

  • A Divine Verdict Undid the Devil’s Damage | Romans 5:12-19

    Jesus Conquers Satan.

The old evil foe means deadly woe. We know his power. Beginning with his confrontation in the wilderness and ending with his triumph on the cross, Jesus destroyed the devil’s power. We, too, will conquer!

    Prayer:

Lord our strength, the battle of good and evil rages within and around us, and our ancient foe tempts us with his deceits and empty promises. Keep us steadfast in your Word, and when we fall, raise us up again and restore us through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
