An exciting tale of Jazz in Cleveland!

Having grown up in Cleveland, Ohio, the storyline of "A Dream of Jazz" really sparked my interest. As with Kim Maerkl's other compositions, this story does not disappoint. My children's grandfather was a huge jazz fan and drummer, so they grew up listening to it. They really loved the music in this production and the story that went along with it. We listen to this CD often. Kim Maerkl proves to be able to appeal to different musical interests and eras and her storytelling attracts both young and old.

Jazz is alive and well

Fantastic music from a bygone Era. Kim Maerkl's music and storytelling are compelling. This is what good music is all about. My kids who are 10 and 8, love the story and are really getting in to jazz . It's a great diversion that helps develop their imagination, which sadly in our electronic age is lacking. This CD takes you back to a simpler time and place. Recommended listening for any age.

If your kids donât love jazz yet, let listen them to A Dream of Jazz

If your kids donât love jazz yet, they will after listening to this CD. Great story and narration too. The music is fantastic and will keep your feet tapping.

Good, Clean Version of the StoryâBut No Illustrations

This version of âCinderella â was published in 1855. Although there are a plethora of Cinderella versions from around the world, this was was pretty tame and non-violent. I enjoyed the tale, but I was a little disappointed that the e-book I got didnât have the engravings included; in fact, the only clue that there were engravings in the original book are the captions to them. All in all, I recommend this version if you donât mind having illustrations.

Short, narrated Cinderella tale.

Cute, short read. It is written simple and in form of old spoken tale. It is a bit different from the Disney Cartoon but true to Cinderella character we have grown to know and love. The book is narrated for us and would have been a greater book with illustrations. I would read to my children for nice bedtime story.

Ok

Wasn't what I expected. The creators of the Cinderella movie really had to stretch the story. You are better off watching the movie.

Five Stars

Arrived quickly & as described. Thanks.

I love it

I mean I do have to admit it isn't like the movies but the movies are just as good as the Book that I just finished reading and do try the read runner thing on there it made me finish way quicker!!!!.....

Terrific, AND OK for children!

Fabulous illustrations and an excellent rendition of this classic story. My wife was concerned the story was too dark for our 5yr old daughter, but she LOVES it! And for those who said it's not for children, have they read ANY other children's classics? Let's see... Hansel and Gretle -father is told by wife to abandon children in the forest because there isn't enough food, then they are lured by candy to a witches home who intends to fatten them up and eat them, only to escape by pushing her into an oven. Snow White - jealous queen tells woodsman to take young girl to the forest and murder her. Little Red Riding hood: girl goes to visit grandmother only to find a wolf is waiting to devour her. Need I go on?

Engaging!

My grandchildren received this book through a membership with Stuart Brent's Children's Book Club in Chicago. I read it with them and all were thoroughly engaged in the story. A discussion followed about the dogs. Were they really bad or just made to be bad? My granddaughter was most interested in the dog's role. Providing great literature for children is vital. I thought the illustrations extraordinary as well.

works 4 me and mine

First book my 9 yr old grandson wanted to read and did!!!!!!!

Nostalgia

I loved this story since I was a kid. I had a comic book of it that as been gone for years and am now glad to have this back. A very nice story.

Wonderful rendition of Anderson's tale

Whoever reviewed this book in "editorial" needs to have their eyes examined. Grotesque watercolors? Inept humor? What are they talking about? This is the FIRST version of the Tinderbox by H.C. Anderson, one of my favorite fairy tales that I've really found to be pleasing. The three dogs with humoungous eyes are delightfully fantastic, and the hero and heroine well rendered. The more bloodthirsty and amoral elements of the tale are changed (ie: the soldier doesn't lop off the witch's head but instead traps her in a deep pit) to its improvement, IMHO. Warhola's watercolors are cheerful, fairly realistic, quite appropriate for the lighthearted and rambunctious story.

A great introduction to an exuberant tale for the young, especially for boys. It's not a wimpy fairytale by any means, even if there is a princess and kissing at the end. Warhola and Thompson do a commendable job. Should be reprinted!
