Title: That Star Spangled Banner: The War, the Flag and the National Anthem
    Author: Gabrielle Stewart
    Narrator: Kate Lisette
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 16 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-29-15
    Publisher: Generation A Publishing, Inc.
    Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7
    Publisher's Summary:
Ten-year old author, and native Marylander, Gabrielle Stewart, tells the story of the danger, dedication, and bravery behind our national anthem and the special role Maryland played in saving the nation during the almost forgotten War of 1812.
The song we sing to celebrate America is now over 200 years old. Gabrielle not only recounts the story of how the song was written, but explains how important the American flag was to the song's author, Francis Scott Key. Also it explains how without the bravery of Marylanders, we not only wouldn't have our national anthem, but our country might be entirely different.
This well-researched audiobook is a great gift for anyone who loves American history and wants to know more about how the Star Spangled Banner came to be our national anthem. The fact that the author is a 10-year old student also gives inspiration to children to share their creativity, learning, and research with others.

Age range way too high - more suitable for toddlers
This is a very nicely written and illustrated book, but I think that the recommended age range of 5 - 8 is way off. I would have read this to my child at two and he would have loved it, but at six he is wanting much more detail about this topic than this simplistic book provides.
    My daughter loves it
We recently told my 3 year old daughter that she will soon have a younger sibling. She seems to have struggled somewhat with even knowing what questions to ask, but I think this book really helped her out. She has wanted to read it every single night since we first picked it up.
    Five Stars
Such a cute story and great way to open up conversation with kids about pregnancy.

    Great book.
Very sweet book about a boy trying to get some answers. He persists and gets the correct info at the end. Plus - there's a page-long guide at the end about having conversations about how babies are made with your children that is helpful. Highly recommend.

Raven can be either a bird or a man. As a man, he can pull down his pointed hat onto his face, and he transforms into Raven bird. The world is dark.
The sun and moon and stars were taken by an evil wizard, and he kept them locked up in his big house on the hill. Raven says that he will bring them back. He flies to the house, but he cannot get in. He decides to play a trick. He pecks on the front door and then flies off and hides behind a tree. The wizard unlocks and opens the door, but there is no one there. He slams the door and locks it. Raven repeats this trick many times until the wizard stays out looking for the one who keeps knocking.
When the wizard's back is turned, Raven flies inside. He looks around. He sees the sun in a bag hanging on one of the walls. On another wall a bag with the moon is hung and on a third wall, a bag full of stars. Just then, the wizard comes back in. Raven must hide. There is a glass of milk on the table, and Raven becomes a seed and drops into the milk. The wizard locks the door. The wizard's daughter comes into the room and drinks the glass of milk.
Time flies by and a baby is growing inside the wizard's daughter. Soon, she has a baby, but it has a strange little hat on its head. One day when the wizard grandpa is napping, the baby starts screaming for the "Bally". The mother tells him to quiet down. Grandpa Wizard asks what the baby is crying about, and his daughter tells him that the baby wants to play with the sun ball. The grandpa says to let it play. The mother takes the bag down and rolls out the sun. The baby plays with it. When her back is turned, the baby pulls down his hat and becomes Raven. He throws the sun ball up through the smoke hole. The villagers cheer, "The Sun is back!" The same is done with the moon and stars. Then the Grandpa Wizard gets out of bed and sees what has happened. He looks at the baby.

Destined to be a childhood classic
Would you consider the audio edition of The Hat Maker's Hats to be better than the print version?
The audio book is the perfect companion for the print version. The gentle and engaging narration shouldn't replace a parent's participation, but for those times when mom or dad can't read out loud, Emily Dragon brings her charming story to your child in a voice that speaks to your child, but never speaks down to them.
What did you like best about this story?
It is amazing how many life lessons can be told in such a short time. This is why this book will become a go-to favorite for parents and children alike. Self esteem, dealing with disappointment, being true to yourself, true happiness - each of these and more are presented as a jumping off point for discussion. Would that text books contained such wisdom!
What does Emily Dragon bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
It is obvious that Emily Dragon does more than just reads the words she has written. To be honest, I personally don't listen to audio books, as I enjoy reading for myself. But with a child who may not read yet, or is more hearing oriented, this is a wonderful medium.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
A better question would be, where was I not moved? As I wrote earlier, this short story is full of life lessons. There is no room for moments that do not move you, or give you something to ponder.

Lion was declared king and invited all the animals to come for a greeting, so he could thank them all. Little Ant was representing all the ants and she was so excited she got up extra early and got to the greeting place before any other animals. She didn't care. She would just wait, but soon a monkey came who did not think a tiny ant should be the first in line and picked her up and threw her over his shoulder. This happened again and again as animal after animal felt that no little ant should be in front of it. Ant was last and by the time ant got up to the lion king, the king was too tired and he did not eve greet Little Ant. She went home sad.
Time went by and the king got an ear ache. It was a tiny worm in his ear. He called in the animals, but they were all too big to reach in his ear. So they all figured that Little Ant was the only one who could help. Then they all remembered how mean they were to Little Ant. They all went together and apologized to Little Ant and asked her to help the King. He then offered his apologies and she agreed to help. She retrieved the worm and everyone celebrated her big littleness. From then on ants can live anywhere.
