An old man put the teakettle on the stove and went out to sit on his porch. When the water began to boil, the pot began to transform. It became a tanuki (sort of like a badger) and began racing around his house, causing all kinds of noise and trouble. The old man realized it was a magical kettle, as the tanuki became the kettle again when the old man came inside. He made a box and, before it could change again, put the teakettle into the box.
A handyman who was a friend of the old man walked by, and the old man gave him the box with the teakettle in it. It transformed while he tried to sleep, and he finally saw the tanuki turning flips. He asked the tanuki if it would like to be in a show. Tanuki nodded, and the young man begin taking the tanuki around, doing magic teakettle performances. The tanuki did the fan dance and shadow dances and flips. He traveled all over Japan and did very well. The time came for him to stop. He filled the teakettle with gold and brought it back to the old man. It did not change into a tanuki again, and the old man had what he needed as he grew older.

He wants to go to all the parties, but he neglected to find out the times they started. He just knows they are all on the same night. He gets an idea. He asks four of his cousins to come over. He gives each a vine, ties it around his waist, and asks each to go to a different party holding the end of the vine. When the parties start, each cousin should pull the vine. Then Spider will know which place to go first. They agree. Soon Spider feels a tug from the east, but as soon as he starts he feels a tug from the west, then the north, then the south. They all keep pulling! Spider cannot move, and his tummy gets smaller and smaller as the vines are pulled tighter and tighter. Finally the vines break. Cute book!
I listened to this with my daughter! We both loved it! It was cute and funny!
    Excellent Interactive Learning for Children
JOYCE of WESTERFLOYCE was a delightful rhyming children's story about a little girl named Joyce who had really loud belches. It was so cute that I have a smile and am giggling as I write this review. I loved it.
This audiobook was especially good as it was interactive by offering suggestions of things a child may do while listening and learning at the same time. It mentioned various activities that a parent or caregiver could oversee so as to give a child full advantage of learning from an audiobook. It also repeated specific words multiple times and mentions that when a word is said x number of times then it is more likely to be remembered. At the end, the book has a glossary of words with their definitions.
MATTHEW W. GRANT is an educator and is experienced in communication therefore one really can't go wrong with this audiobook. I can see many occasions where this would be a great teaching/learning tool. I think this is a step forward in teaching and using audiobooks to a higher advantage.
MARY CATHERINE JONES has a wonderful voice that would be very appealing to young children. She did a great job reading this audiobook and I would most certainly say go for it if one is considering this in assisting education. Another of its values comes in when thinking about listening skills being taught at a younger age.
Audiobook received in exchange for an honest review.

Great series with sturdy board books!
Love these books! Sturdy and thick with super cute stories...I love reading them as much as my daughter loves hearing them! Also great for beginning readers, as the sentences are simple and sometimes repetitive with uncomplicated text. Love the whole series of Gossie and Friends...highly recommend!
    The Book Great Grandmother
After buying all of the Duck and Goose books for my great granddaughter, I wanted another series for my new great grandson. Ollie filled the bill (no pun intended). Adorable books and a moral in each one. My one regret is that there is not a stuffed figure of Ollie for him to hold. Duck and Goose each are on the shelf with those books and it makes the books more lovable.
The pictures in the board books are bright and the adventures of Ollie makes us all (adults and kids) laugh and sigh.
The grandmothers give toys and clothes so this great grandmother has the title of The Book GG. Makes me proud!
Ollie the Stomper is the best!
Love the Gossie & Friends books! The book itself is nice and sturdy - heavy duty board book that will hold up to a lot of use. Stories and characters are cute, absolutely love the illustrations. I'll definitely get the whole set.
I named my son Oliver and I am buying the whole series. Sweet books

    What a Witch...
Wizzil, that horrible, nasty hag is bored and decides to entertain herself by making the Frimp family suffer. She turns herself into a work glove and leaves herself right in the path of Grandpa, DeWitt Frimp. He picks up the glove, puts it on and just can't believe his good fortune. That is until strange things begin to happen. When he tries to swat houseflies, he hits everything but the flies, destroying the house. The rest of the family begins to suffer, too. They develope unbearable itches that only get worse with scratching. At dinner, meatballs begin exploding and water spurts like fountains, right out of their glasses. The next morning, the whole house begins to shake and won't stop. DeWitt, can't take it anymore. He figures it must be the glove, that's when all the trouble started and throws it into the river. Then a strange thing happens. The glove turns back into Wizzil. She sputters and thrashes and sinks. DeWitt can't stand to watch her drown and jumps into the water to save her. As he pulls the repulsive witch to shore, all that mean nastiness washes away and when Wizzil and DeWitt look into each others eyes, it's true love, happily ever after..... Award winning author, William Steig has written another terrific story full of silly characters, laugh-out-loud scenes and hip kid-speak language that will charm and delight youngsters. Quentin Blake's expressive, busy cartoon-like illustrations compliment the story perfectly and together they've authored a picture book kids will want to read again and again. Perfect for children 4-8, Wizzil is a winner.
A book well worth the money
I found "Wizzil" at the local library and thought it would be just another picture book to share with my children. As I started reading it, I was instantly hooked on the writing style of author William Steig. This book is "awesome" and "highly entertaining." I am also a children's writer myself trying to break into the business, so I have read and studied many children's picture books--this one by far stands out as being one of the best written. The imagination of William Steig is very comical as well as highly entertaining. His writing style is one of the best. You can't help but love his characters and sink into the story. I am going to purchase my own copy of this book--this is one story my kids will want to hear over and over. It is a purchase well worth the price.

My younger daughters love this book
My younger daughters love this book! I have had to bring it in several time over the years for story time or read aloud days. To the three of them, it never gets old.
Wonderful Story, Good Quality, Fast Shipping
This is one of my favorite books to read to my little ones. My 4 year old has asked to read "Alice and Greta" every day since it arrived. She loves replacing "Alice" with her name and "Greta" with mine. We talk about which witch does the right and wrong, and we try to decide what Greta should have done instead. It's a great way to discuss right and wrong with preschoolers. I highly recommend this book!
    Great story!
I got this book from a library first and my 4 years old daughter loved it so much, she asked me to buy it for her. So I did. She brought it to preschool and teacher read it to the children. They use the verse out of their all the time now if someone gets too "fresh" with the others: "Whatever you chant, whatever you brew - sooner or later will come back to YOU". Great book - interesting story, great illustrations with great moral.
) We bought it for our cousin and she loved it just as much as we did
Me and my sister used to fight over this book! :) We bought it for our cousin and she loved it just as much as we did! Such a cute book with amazing illustrations. Love it!
