Camera Shy

They usually say if a book is in a series don't they? That was a relatively new feature, sadly, they forgot this book and it is part of a great load of books; I'd recommend starting from the beginning as the relationship between the cop and the DA took a while to nurture.

Apart from that! this was a good thriller whereby a man is bumping off a seemingly random group of people and leaving behind a linen handkerchief with obscure words on it. Great narration, he did The Time Traveller's Wife so he's a pro!

Novel set in BRISTOL, UK (Who can you trust?)

Six months ago Joyceâs husband died whilst out sailing. Now she has received a letter from him, written before his death, which turns her life upside down. He writes that she should take the children and run away from everything and everybody â but doesnât explain why, or how she is going to get her teenager to agree to that.

After this dramatic start, the book follows Joyce as she tries to make sense of the letter, and continue looking after her family â at a time when everyone is still struggling with the grief of losing a father/husband. As her distrust of everyone around her grows, more drama happens and things get worse and worse, until the police become involved â but can Joyce trust the police? I can say no more without giving the plot away.

This book is all about who can you trust, and whether you really know the people you think you can trust. How much goes on in the lives of those that you love, those that you see every day, that you have no idea about?

Most of the events are seen from Joyceâs point of view; there are occasional forays into the thoughts of other characters. Tension builds as Joyce struggles to ensure the safety of her children and wonders who can she turn to?

This is a clever psychological thriller â not a scary book that will make you leave the light on at night. The tension builds up slowly, and I became as intrigued as Joyce as to what was going on. A page turner as the thrills and twists develop, and suddenly there is a whole new level of mystery and interest added.

The characters are well drawn and interesting, and the plot â set in Bristol, is easy to follow. Joyce lives in a gated housing estate, with her family close by. A wonderful place to live, or a gilded cage?

There are plenty of twists and turns in this thriller, and just as I thought I had worked out the mystery, new developments showed me to be wrong.

I really enjoyed this book, and was drawn into Joyceâs life and worries. A great read; my first by this author.

A great follow-up to Ronnie!

This book picks up right where Ronnie left off.

This time we are seeing Ronnie through Mo who is in the hospital, thanks in no small part to Ronnie. Mo has just been shot, twice, but Gustav or Gus as everyone calls him. Gus, like almost all men that cross paths with Ronnie, is in love with her and would do anything for her. He gave his life trying to help her. This twisted tale of family, loyalty and Gypsies keeps you guessing from the first page to the last. From Seattle to San Francisco and to Chicago.

Ronnie always has an agenda, and this time is no different. Thanks to the rookie, part of her plan is discovered. There are so many twists and turns that you are never sure what will happen next.

I won't go into much detail, because I don't want to give away the story or even part of the last book, but trust me it is well worth the read.

Kudos to Chuck for writing another great story. (And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!)

Great Sequel to Ronnie

I really enjoyed reading "Ronnie II" by Chuck Alderman. Ronnie II picks up where Ronnie left off. Ronnie is very sneaky. She fakes her death and escapes from prision. Danny (a.k.a The Kid) had it all figured out before Mo and Curtis stepped in to finding Ronnie. Ronnie is back to her old tricks while trying to evade being captured by the police. The FBI is even called in because Ronnie has got mixed up with the mob. Will Ronnie ever be caught? How many people will Ronnie deceive and steal money from? How many people wil protect Ronnie from being caught?

This book is very well written and is action packed with a lot of twists and turns. I recommend rsading Ronnie before reading Ronnie II. I look forward to reading more books written by Chuck Alderman.

Very Good Read

I've done a review for Chuck Alderman before, and was interested to see how the next novella was going to play out. I liked the characters he came up with and his style of writing, so I expected much of the same with this book.

The character of Ronnie was immediately intriguing, a female con-man, and she definitely carried the attitude and persona you'd expect to go along with that character. I won't give away much of the plot or spoilers because it is a novella so it's short enough to give it a read yourself and figure out if it's something you liked.

The storyline, for being as short as it was, gives a great deal of detail and plot-twists and turns to keep the reader interested. I will say it can be hard to follow at times, and in fact, I read it twice just to be on the safe side that I didn't miss anything.

My two biggest critiques are ones that shouldn't really detract you from buying the book yourself, especially if this is your genre. The first being the prose.
