It’s 7:45pm, my husband has gone on a Costco run, and I’m typing this as my son attacks my breast like a piranha!
After experiencing a beautiful pregnancy, my little guy decided to come 10 days past my due date. In the final days of waiting for his arrival, I made a decision that probably wouldn’t make sense to a lot of people, but offered me the spiritual completion I felt was necessary in the transition from maiden to mother.
I had trained my pelvic floor and mind for an unmedicated, physiological birth. I mean, I became obsessed. I’ve always loved learning about pregnancy and birth, but going through it myself gave me a sense of fulfillment that I always knew I had.
The piece that was unexpected?
My “what ifs” came true.
I had made peace with the concept of them before birth, but little did I know it would actually happen.
This is the story of my wild, unconventional, emergency C-section birth.
Over 24 hours of back labor.
My water breaking more dramatically than a Hollywood movie.
My son’s heart rate dipping into the 30s after trying different positions, scalp massage, and an epidural, when I was rushed to the OR.
We are here; alive, safe, and healthy.
My double Leo son has activated the sleeping lioness within me, and we are just getting started.
