In this episode of #MotivatingMondays, we talk about ongoing reductions to immigration and how they will likely increase wages while reducing unemployment. The Conference Board of Canada expects these dynamics will drive the unemployment rate lower in the coming years, down to 6.2 per cent in 2026 and 5.8 per cent in 2027. For both of these things to be true, we need scarcity in the labour market and we're still just not there. According to July data from StatsCan, the number of available jobs hasn't been this low since 2017.

Discovery isn't just a skill utilized by employment counsellors and case managers. It's a skill utilized by all professionals. We wouldn't want a doctor who diagnosed us without knowing what hurts; a lawyer who suggested a pathway without understanding our legal problem; or a counsellor who told us why we're angry without listening to our story.

We review the trend towards greater wage transparency and how employers that are open and honest on pay equity are also more likely to be open to job development. While 77% of companies cited compliance as a key driver of their pay transparency strategy, more than 50% cited increasing employee satisfaction and aligning with company values as additional leading drivers.
