Hawthorn berries have been used for centuries in traditional medicine to support cardiovascular health, circulation, and healthy blood pressure. These small berries are rich in powerful polyphenols, flavonoids, and antioxidants that help support the heart and blood vessels in several important ways. One of the key benefits of hawthorn berries is their ability to support nitric oxide production, a critical molecule that helps relax and widen blood vessels, improving circulation and supporting healthy blood pressure levels. When blood vessels become more relaxed and elastic, blood flows more efficiently throughout the body, delivering oxygen and nutrients to tissues while reducing strain on the heart. Research also suggests that hawthorn may help support healthier cholesterol profiles by lowering LDL cholesterol while supporting HDL cholesterol, which helps carry excess cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver for removal. This process may help reduce arterial plaque buildup and support healthier arteries over time. Hawthorn has also been shown to support blood sugar balance, which is important because elevated glucose levels can damage blood vessels and contribute to inflammation within the arterial walls.
One of the simplest ways to enjoy hawthorn berries is as a tea. Steeping dried hawthorn berries in hot water helps extract their beneficial compounds, allowing the polyphenols and flavonoids to become more bioavailable. Typically, one to two teaspoons of dried hawthorn berries can be steeped in hot water for about 10 to 15 minutes. Many people enjoy drinking hawthorn tea once or twice daily to support circulation, vascular flexibility, and overall heart health. For additional flavor and potential benefits, ingredients such as ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, or raw honey can be added. As with any natural remedy, individuals who are taking medications or managing cardiovascular conditions should consult their healthcare professional before adding new herbs or supplements to their routine. Supporting the cardiovascular system through balanced nutrition, healthy lifestyle habits, and beneficial plant compounds may help promote long term heart health and improved circulation.

What if one simple habit before bed could support your body’s natural repair processes while you sleep? During sleep, your body enters a powerful healing phase where cells restore themselves, inflammation decreases, and metabolic systems reset. Certain natural compounds can support these processes by helping reduce oxidative stress, supporting cardiovascular health, improving metabolic balance, and assisting digestion. In this video, I explain how taking one simple nighttime “shot” may support healthy arteries, stabilize blood sugar, aid digestion, reduce inflammation, and help your body recover while you sleep. Sleep is when the body performs its deepest repair, and small habits done consistently can have a powerful impact on long term health. Watch the video to learn the physiology behind this powerful nightly routine and why it may help you wake up feeling better, lighter, and more refreshed.

Many people struggle with bloating, sluggish digestion, abdominal discomfort, and irregular bowel movements, yet they overlook a simple nighttime routine that may support the body’s natural repair processes. In this video, Dr. Mandell explains how gently massaging a small amount of castor oil on the abdomen before bed may help support circulation, lymphatic flow, and relaxation of the digestive system.
Castor oil contains a unique fatty acid called ricinoleic acid, which has been shown to have anti inflammatory and analgesic properties. When applied topically and massaged into the abdominal tissues, it may help stimulate superficial circulation, relax fascia surrounding the digestive organs, and support lymphatic movement. The lymphatic system plays a critical role in removing metabolic waste and inflammatory byproducts from tissues, yet it relies on movement and external stimulation because it does not have its own pump.
Gentle abdominal massage can also influence the enteric nervous system, often referred to as the body’s “second brain.” This network of nerves communicates directly with the brain through the vagus nerve and plays a major role in regulating digestion, motility, and relaxation of the gastrointestinal tract. Supporting this region before sleep may help promote parasympathetic activity, allowing the body to enter a deeper state of repair during the night.
Many people report improvements such as reduced bloating, improved bowel regularity, less abdominal tightness, and greater relaxation before sleep when practicing gentle abdominal stimulation routines.
