  • Chew This Tiny Spice Tonight, Your Body Does Something Amazing While You Sleep | Dr. Mandell

Your body goes into a powerful repair mode while you sleep, especially in the gut and nervous system. In this video, I explain how one small kitchen spice, clove, may help support digestion, reduce gas and bloating, calm gut irritation, and promote a more relaxed state at night. Clove contains eugenol, a bioactive compound shown to have antimicrobial, anti inflammatory, and antioxidant properties that may help balance gut microbes and reduce digestive discomfort. Research has also shown clove extracts can influence gastrointestinal motility and help protect the stomach lining. Because the gut and brain communicate through the gut brain axis and vagus nerve, calming digestive irritation at night may also support deeper, more restorative sleep. This is not a drug or cure, but a simple, natural habit that may support what your body already does during nighttime repair.

  • Do This Before Bed — Your Brain and Gut Work on It All Night | Dr. Mandell

Eating kiwi before bed may be a simple, natural way to support better sleep, smoother digestion, and improved gut health overnight. Kiwi contains serotonin, which serves as a precursor to melatonin, the hormone that regulates your sleep wake cycle. Research has shown that consuming kiwi before bedtime is associated with falling asleep faster, longer total sleep time, and improved sleep efficiency. Kiwi is also rich in antioxidants that help reduce oxidative stress, which can interfere with sleep quality and brain recovery.

Beyond sleep, kiwi supports digestion and colon function. It contains actinidin, a natural digestive enzyme that helps break down proteins and may reduce feelings of fullness or sluggish digestion. The soluble fiber in kiwi helps retain water in the stool, supporting smoother bowel movements and reducing constipation. This fiber also acts as a prebiotic, feeding beneficial gut bacteria that produce short chain fatty acids like butyrate, which nourish colon cells, support the gut lining, and help regulate inflammation. Stable gut function also plays a role in blood sugar balance overnight and communication along the gut brain axis. One or two kiwis about an hour before bed can be a simple nightly habit that supports sleep quality, digestive comfort, and overall metabolic balance.

  • The Rice Mistake Millions Make Every Day | Dr. Mandell

Most people believe brown rice is automatically healthier than white rice, but the real story is more complex. Rice is grown in flooded fields and naturally absorbs arsenic from soil and water. That arsenic tends to concentrate in the outer bran layer of the grain, which means brown rice, while higher in fiber and nutrients, can also contain more arsenic than white rice. On the other hand, white rice has less fiber and can raise blood sugar more quickly.

In this video, I explain the real trade-offs between white and brown rice, how rice affects blood sugar and insulin response, why preparation methods matter, and the common rice mistake millions of people make every day. You will also learn practical ways to reduce arsenic exposure, improve metabolic response, and make smarter choices based on how often you eat rice and how your body handles carbohydrates.

This is not about fear. It is about understanding patterns, exposure, and how small daily habits influence long-term health.

  • The Most Powerful Natural Oil in Your Kitchen to Help Calm Inflammation | Dr. Mandell

Extra virgin olive oil contains phenolic compounds such as oleocanthal that have demonstrated anti inflammatory activity. Oleocanthal has been shown to influence inflammatory enzymes involved in pain and swelling responses, while olive oil polyphenols provide antioxidant and vascular protective effects. Regular olive oil consumption is associated with improved endothelial function, reduced oxidative stress, and lower inflammatory markers, contributing to cardiovascular and metabolic health benefits observed in Mediterranean dietary patterns.
